The Light—Part 2

December 16/17, 2017 John 1:4-5

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) Jesus is the exclusive source of Light. Truth is found only in Him (John 8:12). 2) In the beginning, before anything else, there was already life. 3) The very fact that we belong to Jesus makes us His light (John 8:12). 4) Jesus reduces the function of believers to one word: influence (Matthew 5:14). 5) For better or for worse, your function/influence affects how others see God. 6) If we do not follow Jesus, we evidence we do not possess His light. 7) A true follower will be moving toward spiritual things, closer to the Word of God, toward fellowship, toward worship, toward prayer. Those in the darkness do the opposite (John 1:5; 3:19–20) because light exposes darkness, and evil hates light. 8) According to the Bible, at salvation God placed eternal life in you; therefore, you radiate light. The complication comes when we allow our daily choices to obscure His light. 9) Because we believe, He has changed us from being part of the dark world to be His agents of light to others (Ephesians 5:8). 10) By definition, an influence must be different from that which it influences (Colossians 1:13). 11) By nature, light must be visible in order to illuminate. 12) Letting our light shine allows people to see the beauty Jesus has worked in us. To see good in us is to see Christ in us (Matthew 5:14-16). 13) Everything we do is to cause others to give praise to the God who is the source of all that is good.
