Project Theme: Chinese Classical Poetry Singing Chinese language students from schools around NSW performing “New Songs of 20 Classical Poetry Study”, by highly celebrated contemporary Chinese composer Ms Gu Jian fen.

The project objectives: The main aim of this project is to raise students’ interest in Chinese Language and Culture, as well as to improve students’ competence and confidence in language studies. Through the interactive learning and rehearsing activities between school teachers and students, there will be an increase in exchange of knowledge and a sharing of resources.
Key dates: EOI send out 20-25th April 2015. EOI close 2nd May. Project Kick-off & planning meeting: 6th May. At Burwood RSL. Learning commences: 18th May. Group Rehearsal: 24th June, 16th Sep. Dress Rehearsal from 10:30 to 5:00PM 14th Oct. (on Concert Day) Town Hall Concert: 6:00PM-8:00PM 14th Oct.

Project outline: Ms Gu has composed songs for traditional poems, with light and cheerful tones designed to be especially easy for children to sing-along. Through singing, students are able to grasp correct pronunciation and phonetics/tones, and quickly improve their language and expressive ability. There are many on-line sites, apps, audio & video resources of “New Songs of 20 Classical Poetry Study” widely available for teachers and students to use. CLTAUNSW will provide all the participating schools with the full text of the poetry, along with suggestions for teaching methods and relevant projects. However, there is plenty of room for the students to be creative and fully demonstrate their talent in learning the language, and to use the poetry singing as a unique showcase of their learning outcomes.
