PART-TIME AND SUBSTITUTE PROFESSIONAL STAFF EMPLOYMENT (Substitute Teachers)

The Superintendent shall maintain a list of qualified substitute teachers who may be called on to replace regular teachers who are absent. Such a list shall be filed with the Human Resource Department at the Superintendentʼs Office. A teacher whose name does not appear on the substitute list may not be employed in the School District except when specifically approved by the Superintendent. Principals will be responsible for seeing that the work of the substitute is as effective as possible and will provide him/her with a planned program. The rate of pay for a substitute for the first 29 consecutive days shall be set by the School Board and subject to periodic review. Whenever a fully qualified substitute is required for a period in excess of 30 consecutive school days, the substitute will have full responsibility for the instruction to include planning lessons and marking students, and such a substitute will be placed on the minimum salary step beginning with the thirtieth day. When it is known the substitute is needed for more than 30 consecutive days, pay is based on the minimum salary step from day one. *Note: All part-time and substitute employees must undergo a Criminal History Records Check prior to any employment.
