THOUSAND PLUS CAMPAIGN
About the campaign: The campaign aims to generate financial resources from Indians, including the diaspora, civil society organisations, faith-based institutions, foundations and corporate houses towards the Emergency Response Fund (ERF). ERF will be a pool fund maintained by HAI, enabling HAI to launch a quicker disaster response through its member organisations. ERF will be utilised to respond to medium and mega disasters in India, which overwhelm response capacity of state governments. An Emergency Response Committee (ERC), comprising HAI executive director, programme director and select members from the board and advisory committee shall be constituted to make decisions about utilisation of the ERF. The ERF will contribute in achieving two primary objectives of HAI humanitarian response policy, i.e. 1) make disaster responses quicker (preferable within 24-48 hours) so that more lives are saved and faster recovery ensured, and 2) minimise operational cost, using local resources and respecting prevailing economy, so that maximum resources are utilised on direct programmes.
Campaign Target: ₹ 5,000,000
The initial target is INR 5 million. HAI will keep organising the campaign on annual basis to replenish the fund or further increase it.
How can you join the campaign? 1. Make a contribution: You can make a minimum contribution of ₹1,000 or in the multiples of ₹1,000 towards the fund by visiting our website which provides several options of making contributions. HAI Emergency Response Mechanism: HAI responds to disasters through its platform consisting of Indian homegrown organisations, faith-based institutions, corporate and media houses. Members of the HAI platform are chosen following due diligence who have capacity of carrying out an accountable programme with utmost quality and innovation, and have potential for constant improvement. HAI takes full responsibility of proper utilisation of all funding routed through HAI, and remain accountable to each donor.
HAI accountability to your financial support: Please refer our Accountability Statement at HAI website, where we have set standards of our accountability. Additionally, CPA will constantly monitor the fund and its utilisation pattern. Contribution of each donor will be made visible on HAI website, which will also provide cumulative total of the fund available under ERF. As soon as a decision is made to respond to a disaster, each donor shall be informed through email and social media about the response plan, details of implementing member organisation and components of the response. A GPS map of the response area shall be uploaded on the HAI website. HAI will retain only 5% of contribution made by individuals towards ERF. This amount will exclusively be used for administering the fund, not to pay salaries and benefits to HAI Board or it’s employees. Likewise, implementing member organisations of HAI will be allowed to use maximum 10% of the ERF grant for operational costs (including salaries). During the response cycle, donors shall be regularly kept informed through situation reports and photographs. HAI will also provide contact details of representatives from the beneficiary communities, so that donors could directly speak to them about quality and quantity of support. Once the response is over, a final narrative and financial report will be uploaded on HAI website. At all times, donors to HAI will be entitled to ask questions and access records to verify proper utilisation of resources.
