TRAINING PERTH MBC PRACTICE FORUM: WORKING WITH MEN USING VIOLENCE AND ABUSE: ACCOUNTABILITY IN PRACTICE Presented by: Diane Coleman & Men and Family Centre Team Diane has over 30 years experience in therapeutic work with a special focus on responding to Domestic & Family Violence. She has conducted many groups for women who have experienced violence and facilitated numerous Men’s Behaviour Change Programs. In 2012 she developed a resource DVD ‘Not in My House’ to train workers around the issues of intimate partner violence. Diane is also a Registered Psychologist and the Chair of the Men’s Behaviour Change Network NSW (MBCN NSW). The Men and Family Centre has been running men’s behaviour change programs on the NSW Far North Coast for two decades. The M&FC’s current 32-week men’s behaviour change program, is divided into 4 x 8-week modules and is one of only two accredited regional MBCPs in NSW. The M&FC’s programs are run in Tweed Heads and Lismore and are currently funded under the NSW government’s MBCP Pilot. Their expertise will be available throughout their presentations and panel contributions.

Course Overview Held over 2 days, the Perth MBC Practice Forum is the first of a series of forums that begin important discussion about our work with men using violence and abuse in their families and communities. With an increasing focus on perpetrator accountability in family and domestic violence services, AnglicareWA is bringing the following experienced and highly regarded specialists to WA: • Di Coleman from Baptistcare NSW presenting a Supervision MasterClass • Practitioner Team from the Men and Family Centre Lismore NSW This forum will start with a Masterclass focusing on supervision practice followed by a “Call Me Dad” film screening and panel discussion. The focus will then move to presentations and workshops exploring the implications of practice standards in men’s behaviour change work. The Practice Forum will have a strong emphasis on women and children’s safety as the paramount consideration in our work with those using abuse and violence.
Who is this course suitable for? Highly recommended for MBCP practitioners, team leaders, child protection staff, corrective services officers, policy officers, family law consultants, drug and alcohol, mental health practitioners and those working in specialist integrated response teams, attendees will embark on opportunities to work with highly skilled and experienced practitioners and clinical supervisors.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: • Develop clarity about placing women and children’s safety as the primary consideration in work with men using abuse and violence • Understand the role of the WA Practice Standards for Perpetrator Intervention: Engaging and Responding to Men who are perpetrators of Family and Domestic Violence • Develop supervision skills and knowledge in specialist supervision for practitioners working in MBC • Network and share experiences across the relevant service delivery and policy sectors
