It is always recommended that if a school is Common App, you should apply via the common app. If you have a school that accepts electronic submissions, alert your counselor and together we will work to submit through their chosen system. If you have a school that is mail only, student will be responsible for notifying the Guidance Office. You, and only you, as the student are responsible for knowing your deadlines and meeting them.
TYPES OF APPLICATIONS/DEADLINES: REGULAR-You are applying at the normal date and will receive notification of admissions based on how that college processes applications. You have until May 1st to make your admissions decision and deposit. ROLLING ADMISSIONS-This college will process your application as soon as it is complete. They will send you your admission status result, usually within 2 – 4 weeks of the application completion at the school. You have until May 1st to make a decision and deposit. PRIORITY-Colleges will often have a priority date for scholarships and other benefits, similar to early action, but may have a later notification date. You have until May 1st to make a decision and deposit. EARLY ACTION-An accelerated college application process in which you must have your materials in by an early deadline (generally November 1st.). Colleges will respond by Jan. 1st – 15th. Some reasons to consider early action include: • At many colleges, the acceptance rates are higher for early action than for regular admission. • Students who are not accepted early are still considered for admission with the regular admission pool. • Early action is not binding -- students are free to apply to other colleges. • Students can apply early to other colleges. • Although students receive early notification of an acceptance, they do not need to make a decision until the usual May 1 deadline. EARLY DECISION- A contract between you and the school to which you are applying. You must have your materials in by an early deadline (generally November 1st.) Colleges will respond by Jan. 1st – 15th. If accepted, you must deposit at that school immediately as long as you have received a financial aid package. The contract is binding and the school must also agree.
