TREATMENT COLLABORATION EXPECTATIONS Exchange of Information with Treatment x After obtaining a signed release of information, Probation shall supply the DV treatment provider with any pertinent information (police report, a summary of the assessment results, the victim impact statement, etc.) to assess and evaluate the offender. x Probation shall regularly inform treatment of the status of the probationer’s supervision for purposes of continuing MTT collaboration, addressing victim and community safety issues, and probationer containment. x If the probationer is involved with the local county’s Department of Human Services, Probation shall seek their input into the treatment process and include them as part of the MTT. Participation in Multidisciplinary Treatment Teams (MTT) x Per DVOMB Standards Section 5.02, Probation is an integral part of the MTT. The MTT is designed to collaborate and coordinate treatment. The MTT should share information and promote containment. x Probation officers, supervising DV caseloads, shall participate in the MTT, shall ensure that information is shared with other MTT members, and support the overall goals of treatment and probation supervision. x If an MTT is not occurring, in accordance with DVOMB Standards, it is the responsibility of the supervising probation officer to contact the treatment provider to schedule an MTT. x MTT’s should have checks/balances around victim advocate participation and/or input. If there is no direct participation or input by the treatment agency’s victim advocate, probation should request it from the treatment provider. x Probation victim services officers (VSO’s) may staff cases with the probation officer and treatment advocate; however, VSO’s shall not be the victim representative on the MTT. MTT Consensus x The MTT shall have consensus as its goal in managing probationers. Consensus should be reached for the following phases of treatment (initial placement in treatment, when a change in treatment level is indicated, and at discharge). If there is a lack of consensus, probation officers shall consult with their supervisor for assistance in reaching consensus. If there continues to be a lack of consensus, probation shall document its recommendation and submit it to the court for ultimate decision. Knowledge of Core Competencies x Probation officers, supervising a DV caseload, should have a general understanding of the core competencies to help monitor behavioral change and reinforce treatment. x

The probation officer shall request monthly updates from the treatment provider regarding information concerning the probationer’s progress on core competencies.

Victim Services Officer Input x Probation officers shall work collaboratively with the probation VSO and treatment advocates, regarding victim safety concerns, keeping victims informed of the probationer’s status, and/or addressing treatment concerns. Knowledge of Domestic Violence Risk Needs Assessment (DVRNA) x Probation officers, supervising DV caseloads, should have a general knowledge of the DVRNA; how it is scored, and how it relates to the probationer’s treatment level. Probation officers shall review the information provided by treatment, as to how they scored the DVRNA and reached a recommended treatment level, to promote accuracy.
