Truth Momentum—Part 23 Acts 13:42-52

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) When the Gospel is presented, the results are explosive. Sometimes the exposure of guilt forces people to brokenness; sometimes it forces people to passionate rejection. 2) Conflict will occur when the truth of the gospel is shared. The gospel splits people, dividing those who love its truth from those who reject it (Matthew 10:34-36). 3) 13:43 If the faith of those listeners was genuine they would confirm the confession by continuing in what they had heard.

12) 13:51 Paul’s and Barnabas’ dust-shaking symbolized their ridding themselves of all responsibility for the unreceptive Jews. There was no stronger condemnation. 13) We do not have to face the judgment of God because of Jesus; and only through Jesus do we find forgiveness. GREEK WORDS Antilegō—contradicting; continually speaking against (imperfect tense) Blasphēmeō (blas-fay-meh'-o)—to vilify; specially to speak impiously :(speak), defame, rail on, revile, speak evil Tassō—appointed; a military word meaning “to assign” :- found in ancient documents in the sense of “to inscribe” or “to enroll”

4) 13:44-45 When it became clear that Paul was ready to speak directly to Gentiles without first pointing them to Judaism, the Jews’ initial interest turned to hostility. 5) 13:45 Few things infuriated Jews like the thought that God might extend grace to the despised Gentiles (example: Jonah). 6) 13:46 God holds every person responsible for the choices they make. Thus, hearers of the Gospel are responsible for their reaction to it. 7) In spite of the overwhelming rejection of the gospel by his own people, Paul never abandoned his witness to Jews. 8) 13:47 The narrow-minded view of salvation as an exclusively Jewish possession is foreign to the Old Testament, which clearly taught that Messiah would be for the Gentiles as well (Isaiah 42:1, 6; 49:6; cf. Acts 26:22–23). 9) 13:48 The issue of God’s election and human will is so incomprehensible to our minds that it demands we believe and accept both without being able to comprehend how. 10) 13:49 Evangelism always follows salvation…those who are saved naturally desire to share. 11) 13:50 Satan is very old and very shrewd. He wants to get to the people of social status because they affect society.
