In January, Oxfam released a report called Wealth: Having It All and Wanting More. The report made news around the world and influenced the proceedings at the Davos World Economic Forum. Oxfam Canada Executive Director Julie Delahanty will speak about the report’s findings on the gathering storm of extreme inequality and the bold but practical solutions necessary to eliminate extreme inequality by 2030. The disproportionate burden of extreme inequality falls on women. That’s why a fundamental focus of all Oxfam’s work is on advancing women’s rights and gender justice. As an international expert on gender and development, Julie Delahanty will address the nature of the challenge we face both in Canada and in the Global South and advance practical solutions that place women’s rights at the centre of the work to end extreme inequality. Julie Delahanty, Executive Director of Oxfam Canada as of October 1st, 2014, is a leader on gender equality and human rights with more than 20 years of international development experience. Most recently, she was the Director of the Central America Program for Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, and has served as the Director of CIDA’s Gender Equality and Child Protection Division. Julie has written extensively on issues of gender and employment, agricultural biodiversity, sexual and reproductive health and rights, garments and globalization. She sits on the Executive Board of Oxfam International where she acts as the gender champion for the world-wide influencing and campaigning work of the organization.
