The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar
In the following description. color references are made to
of New Guinea Impatiens lant. botanically known as Impa tiens hawkeri, known by e name ‘Kigula’. and hereinafter referred to by the cultivar name ‘Tagula’.
The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where general terms of ordinary dictionary signi?cance are used.
The new cultivar is a product of a planned breeding
program conducted by the inventor in Gensingen. Germany. The objective of the breeding program was to develop new varieties that have a uniform plant habit. attractive ?ower colors. good ?ower form and numerous ?owers per plant. The new cultivar originated from a cross made by the inventor of a propietary seedling selection identi?ed as Z661
as the male. or pollen parent. with the propietary seedling selection identi?ed as Z871 as the female. or seed parent.
The cultivar ‘Tagula’ was discovered and selected by the inventor as a ?owering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in a controlled environment in Gensingen. Germany. Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar by terminal cut
tings taken at Gensingen. Germany. has shown that the unique features of this new Impatiens are stable and repro duced true to type in successive generations of asexual 2
reproduction. The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Tagula’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Tagula’ as a new and distinct cultivar:
1. Large orange and light pink bi-colored ?owers. 2. Rounded and rnounded growth habit.
3. Dark purple. slightly glossy. non-varigated foliage. The accompanying colored photographs illustrate the overall appearance of the new cultivar. showing the colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in colored reprr» 3
ductions of this type.
The ?rst photograph comprises a top perspective view of a typical plant of ‘Tagula’. The second photograph comprises a close-up view of a typical ?ower and upper (left) and lower (right) surfaces of 3 leaves of the cultivar ‘Tagula’. Flower and foliage colors in the photographs may differ from the actual colors due to light re?ectance. The cultivar ‘Tagula’ has not been observed under all
possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as tempera
ture and light intensity. without. however. any variance in genotype. The following observations. measurements and comparisons describe plants grown l0-cm in Encinitas. Calif.. under commerical practice in a ?berglass-covered greenhouse with day temperatures ranging from 23 to 29C and night temperatures ranging from 16 to 18C and light levels averaging 3.000 footcandles.
