PART – B (50 Marks) 11. A 3-phase star connected alternator is rated at 1600 kVA, 13.5 kV. The effective armature resistance and synchronous reactance are 1.5Ω and 30 Ω per phase, respectively. Find regulation for a load of 1280 kW, rated voltage and p.f. of (a) 0.78 leading (b) 0.8 lagging.
(10)
12. A 50 Hz, 30-phase, 480 V, delta connected salient pole synchronous generator has xd = 0.1 Ω and xq = 0.075 Ω. The generator is supplying 1200 A at 0.8 p.f. lagging. Find the excitation emf. Neglect armature resistance.
(10)
13. A 3300 V, delta connected synchronous motor has xs = 18 Ω/phase. It operates at a leading p.f. of 0.707 when drawing 800 kW from mains. Find excitation emf.
(10)
14. Draw and explain the characteristics of two alternators working in parallel. What is the effect of change of excitation and change in mechanical power input on load sharing?
(10)
15. Draw the phasor diagram of a salient pole synchronous motor. Derive the power-angle characteristics.
