Objectives ?
• A brief overview on the multi-faceted topic of ‘Smart Cities’
• What are we offering – Business Opportunities? The future is here
3
Definitions (just to mention)
• Based on (B.S.I) definition: ‘Smart Cities’ is a term denoting
effective integration of physical digital and human systems in
the built environment to deliver a sustainable prosperous and inclusive future for its citizens; • Pitfall # 1 No agreed definition; • Pitfall # 2 No systematic ranking system;

4
The Five Musts of ‘Smart Cities’ • ‘Smart Cities’ sub-systems should comply and satisfy end-users expectations • Sub-systems should be integrated based on an open and transparent communication platform with a common control centre
• The communication system should be secured and at the same time allow access to ‘big data’
• Physical and ICT infrastructures should be resilient and responsive assuring maintainability without ‘violating’ the urban environment
• The techno-economical model should be based on the ‘Win Win’ approachend-users, service suppliers and local authorities all should reap the benefits

About the IOT (or shall we say IOE?) • IOT (Internet of Things) is the platform on which the ‘Smart City ‘behaves’ • Objective? Connectivity of ‘things’ (in all aspects), • Mckinsey claims that by the year 2025, IOT will have a total potential economic impact of up 11.1 trillion dollars! • On top of that to keep with the growing population and GDP we will need by 2030 more than 57 trillion dollars in new and upgraded urban infrastructures •
Integration is the ‘buzz word’

The exponential growth of sensors and actuators is
by no means the physical (as well as the ICT) platform for the IOT ‘revolution’

An Efficient Street Lighting Installation will Result in Considerable Cost Savings Dynamic street lighting installation, which allows receiving data from the vehicle (electric and not electric) Adjust the level of light to the speed and direction of light, weather and visibility conditions and more, While keeping optimal energy consumption

Just a reminder: the ‘Smart Grid’ is a subsystem of the ‘Smart City’
‘Smart Grid’ in one sentence is all about grid optimization….
