This spring marks the closing of a year which has seen radical changes in the Student Council work. With the coming of our new principal, Mr. Bryan, a new program was started in which the seventh and eighth grades are all included in the Student Body under a new six-year high school plan- With the addition to the Council of these lower grade representatives, the Council was able to see the problems of the entire school. The work of the Student Council this year has been mainly in connection with the Floodlight Bonds. An extensive campaign was made to gain control of the bonds by trading an all-activity ticket for them,

Senior Class History In 1936, 128 rather bewildered students entered dear old Lebanon High School destined to become one of the most celebrated classes in the school history. Much of the greenness was removed at the annual Freshman reception held for the class by the upperclassmen. But fate had not decided upon this being an average class, because it proved to be quite ambitious and active. Harold Howard was elected president; Harry Miller, vice president; Shirley Keebler, secretary, and Jack McDonald, treasurer. In October an elaborate party and dance was given under the able supervision of the class adviser, Mrs, Shanks, in the newly constructed gymnasium. In December Harold Howard moved to California and Glenn Kobow was elected to succeed himIn the operetta, "The Nightingale," Dorothy Bohle, Harry Miller, and Bernice Strickler had speaking parts, The class was well represented in the chorus alsoThis year saw the last of the Hi-Jinx in which the freshman skit was a great successEven though the social activities of the class were numerous, several of the members hung up scholastic recordsIn the fall of the year of 1937, approximately one hundred and ten students continued on to the sophomore class- Our greenness was gone, and we were ready to start the new school year with a fierce determination to show the rest of the L. H- S. what we could do. When the time came for the election of officers, the sophomore class chose Glenn Kobow as president, Wes Gillenwater as vice-president, Helen Michelson as secretary, Bill Warden as treasurer, and Harry Miller as representativeThat year sophomores who majored in commerce were allowed to take typing and shorthand. Dorothy Bohle made the highest speed record of any of the first year typists, attaining a speed of seventy words a minuteThe sophomore class contained many musical members- Among them Edna Mae Myers, who sang first alto in the Girls' Quartet, and Dorothy Bohle, who accompanied the Glee Club in its work- There were six sophomores in the High School Band and many more in the Glee Club;

furthermore several members went to the Pacific Campus in order to participate in the Fifteenth Annual State Music TournamentThe sophomore class was well represented on the honor roll, too, in spite of their many activitiesMiss Elizabeth Bennett was our advisor who gave us unlimited cooperation and help. The 1940 graduating class entered its junior year in September, 1938, numbering 111 strong, the largest junior class in L- H- S- historyThe class started in fine style by electing these officers: Dorothy Bohle, president; Harry Miller, vice-president; Helen Michelson, secretary, and Betty McKinney, treasurer- The class of '40 built itself a splendid reputation in its junior year with the members participating in athletics, music, and other school activitiesThe organization presented an unusually successful play called "Crashing Society-" This was a comedy concerning the Dunnigans, a typical American family, who inherited a million dollars and decided to enter New York society- The cast included Alice Belousek, Wesley Taylor, Don Hayes, Dorothy Bohle, Charmain Miller, Homer Goulard, Harry Miller, Betty Smith, Bill Warden, Margarett Gatchell, Daren Pierce and Shirley Keebler. The play was a splendid production as judged from both dramatic and financial viewpoints. Numerous dances were sponsored by the class and a Junior-Senior picnic was given on May 19- The two classes journeyed to Silver Creek Falls for the occassion. The day was completely enjoyed through hiking, ball games, horseshoe matches, and a bounteous picnic lunch. Four members of the junior class were selected to the National Honor SocietyThese were Dorothy Bohle, Marie Hunt, Harry Miller, and Glenn Kobow. The juniors were especially honored at the close of the year by the selection of Evelyn Mick to rule as Queen of the Strawberry FairEvelyn reigned in royal style. This was a very fitting climax for an unusually successful junior yearOn September 11, 1939, a total of 96 so-called sophisticated seniors enrolled in Lebanon High School for another, and they hoped, their last nine month session with the teachers and books of dear old L- H- SThe first class meeting was called to order for the purpose of electing new officers- The outcome of this election was: Burton Blackwell, president; Richard Owens, vice-president; Betty McKinney, secretary; Bill Warden, student body representative; Dick Miller, sargeant-at-arms. Mr- Bennett started another year as senior class advisor-

The seniors, feeling the great responsibility of every senior class, set a good example for underclassmen, and have participated in a great many activities. The first outstanding event of the school year, in which all seniors took part, was the freshman initiation- If some phases were just a little bit undignified for a senior, well, after all the freshmen did have to be initiated and it was the senior's job ! The seniors were also well represented in the annual high school operetta, wherein Bill Warden and Lorris Phelps portrayed leading parts and many other seniors helped to comprise the choruses. The senior class had 15 lettermen. Fifteen received letters in one of the three major sports, and one of these received letters in each of the three major sportsAs well as in other activities, the senior class was not to be let out of being represented in the National Honor Society. Those chosen for this great honor were: Olive Ann Myler, Richard Owen, Ila Bahrke, Luella Line and Jean Gepford. On March 29 the senior class presented the annual class play which was entitled "Spring Fever-" The cast included the following: Bob Medley, Howard Schuler, Homer Goulard, Alice Belousek, Betty McKinney, Dorothy Bohle, Donald Hayes, Betty McClure, Cecile Ashley, Marilyn Scroggin, Yvonne Fisk, and Wesley TaylorIn the student council there were a number of worthy seniors who helped to solve the smaller but not least in importance of high school problems. Those seniors are as follows: Olive Ann Myler, Glenn Kobow, Dorothy Alley, Merle Klinge, Orin Opel, Dorothy Bohle, Bill Warden, Don Hayes, Pat Tweed, Ila Bahrke, Johnny Baca, Harry Miller, Homer Goulard, Burton Blackwell, and Shirley Keebler. And now as the kind of lost feeling descends upon us seniors as our high school days draw to an end, we certainly feel reluctant to leave our old Alma Mater and yet there is the fiery fighting gleam in all seniors' eyes as they look forward to launching upon another phase of life wherein we all hope the finals will spell "Success."

Will and Testament We, the class of the year one thousand nine hundred and forty, being the largest class in L. H. S. history to date, do execute, publish, and swear this our last will and testament in manner and style as follows:

First: We give to our inferiors the junior class, caps and gowns for graduation. SECOND: To the basketball squad we leave several positions which we indeed hope, will be capably filled for the State Tournament, and which we hope L. H. S. will again participate in. THIRD: Individual donations and wills: Dorothy Alley—Leaves the Student Body secretarial job for some other industrious person. Cecil Ashley—wills his keen interest in pharmacy to Harold Harden- Johnny Baca—wills his title as idol of the fight fans to Jack Lemons. Ila Bahrke—leaves her technique to persecute algebra to Ruth Zimbrick. Myrl Barnts—leaves his lure to motorcycle riding to Helen Horton- Merton Bates— gives his subtle ability for winning three women at a time to Fred Baca. Margaret Beale—leaves high school for her own home. Alice Belousek—leaves for Don Hayes' farm where she will learn to farm extensively. Theron Blackburn—leaves his ability for tricky driving to George McDonaldBurton Blackwell—wills his "Roberts Rules of Order" to Gracie Allen. Evelyn Bleakney—leaves her tendency to skip to Marjory Canoy. Dorothy Bohle—leaves but leaves Charlotte to take over her scholarship ability and Jack Lemons. Cast in the following roles and highly complimented on their excellent performances were Howard Schuler as Howard, Brant, a senior at Brookfield college; Homer Goulard as Ed Burns, a chemistry student whose explosions kept the audience on the jump continuously; Bob Medley as Vic Lewis, an art student; Alice Belousek, as Lou Herron, a journalism major; Marilyn Scroggin as Mrs. Spangler, the landlady of the rooming house; Betty Lou McClure as Maude Corey, Howard's aunt from California; Dorothy Bohle as Ann Purcell, Howard's heart-interest; Betty McKinney as Vic's heart-interest; Wesley Taylor as Henry Purcell, Ann's millionaire father; Yvonne Fisk as Phoebe Purcell, Ann's mother; Donald Hayes as Virgil P. Bean, professor of zoology and Cecile Ashley as Dr. Dixon, president of Brookfield college. The play was also successful financially as well as entertaining. Junior Class The year which is now coming to a close has been a very successful year for the Junior Class- To start the year off, the Juniors had many dances, and all were said to be the best dances of the year. The Junior Class officers chosen at the beginning of the year are as follows: Jack Lemons, president; Geneva Brown, vice-president; Gene McKinney, treasurer; Ruth Schackman, secretary; and George Dewey, student council representative.
