Cheltenham Sewerage Strategy: Cleeve View Road Flood Alleviation
We posted this to you on: 20 October 2014
Dear customer,
We are starting some work that may affect you - so we would like to meet you Why we are doing this work We are investing over £5million to improve our sewer network in Cheltenham. There are many areas of the town where our sewers are unable to provide the capacity required at times of heavy rainfall, putting properties at risk of flooding from the public sewer. Our aim is to improve our network in these areas over the next 7 months. What we are doing The public sewer network in your area is too small to cope with flows during periods of heavy rainfall, and needs to be extended by laying new, larger pipes. This will require closures of Thames Road and Whaddon Road, as shown on the plan overleaf. Severn Road, at the junction with Whaddon Road, will also be affected. Please Note: • We plan to start sewer work in your area in January 2015 for 4 months • The work will require road closures during this time • There will be utility diversions required before this, starting in November 2014 • We will be holding a Public Exhibition at Cheltenham Town Football Club, Whaddon Road, Cheltenham, GL52 5NA on 30 October 2014. • You can meet our project team from 1.00pm to 7.00pm and obtain further details of our proposals When the works are taking place We plan to start our works in Thames Road in early January 2015, extending both foul and surface water systems. This section is expected to last until the end of February 2015, and will be followed by sewer improvements in Whaddon Road, as far as the junction with Severn Road, which will be finished in April 2015. How we will keep disruption to a minimumThe sewer improvements we propose are extensive in nature, and may be disruptive. We have worked with our contract partner NMCNomenca to make sure that we minimise the impact of the work on residents in the area. •
Due to the size of our excavations, there will be road closures as detailed above. When a section of road is closed to traffic we will work with you to provide access for your vehicles wherever we can. If our working area is directly in front of your property we may not be able to maintain vehicular access for some of this time. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
•
Diversion routes will be clearly signed to help traffic movements through the area.
•
We are working closely with Gloucestershire County Council, the emergency and refuse services to make sure that traffic management plans are in place. Where the works are taking place
