BHS has had a very successful Book Week with a focus on different illustrators around the school. Year 2 created some amazing art work in the style of their classes chosen illustrator (2A Maurice Sendak - Where the Wild Things are, 2J Oliver Jeffers– How to catch a star. 2F Lauren Child - Charlie and Lola). Book week kicked off to a great start with a whole school ‘read in’ Monday morning and teachers sharing some excerpts of their favourite books. Book week activities that the children took part in included; creating flip charts, comic book strips, a bookmark making competition and a book hunt to name a few, some children even competed in the book quiz. The children had a great time at the book character disco at lunch today as well as the book character parade, there were some fantastic costumes on show!

In our inquiry work we have been learning more about our third line of inquiry, opportunities experienced because of a journey. The children brainstormed and shared some different journeys they had been on and discussed with their classmates what opportunities they experienced because of this journey. Today the children had a talk from Mr. Teahan about Geocaching, in preparation for our Y2 Geocaching trip next Wednesday. Mr Teahan got us thinking about preparing for a journey and what we might need to take on our journeys. If you want to know more about Geocaching please go to the following website: https://www.geocaching.com/play Parent volunteers have been notified today, please check your child’s diary for a letter confirming your help on the trip. Thank you!

This week the children were engaged in lots of book week related activities for English. This included lots of reading of their own and discussions of different illustrators to some of their favourite books. Each class explored their illustrator and created their own art work in the style of.

This week the children have been learning about multiplication as arrays. The children read Amanda Bean’s amazing dream multiplication book. They explored all the different arrays seen in the illustrations of the book as Amanda Bean goes on different journeys including a dream. Each class began to create their own illustrations to create a class math book showing different arrays of amazing journeys of their own.
