WEST NUSA TENGGARA - ANOTHER PARADISE UNVEILED
Assalamu’alaikum Wr.Wb. Greetings, peace be upon us all, In praise and worship to the God All mighty for all the blessings and wisdom received, I welcome the publishing of the photographic journal “West Nusa Tenggara, Another Paradise Unveiled”, the creation of Brigadier General of Police. Drs. Arif Wachyunadi This book is a realization of his dedication to his place of assignment in West Nusa Tenggara, by excavating local potential, particularly in the cultural and tourism sectors. The publishing of this book is also intended to develop partnerships between all stakeholders in the support of National Police duties as pronounced in the Legislation, no.2, in the year 2002. The story of “West Nusa Tenggara, Another Paradise Unveiled” flows beautifully through expressive shots that truly invite the reader to dive into the fascinating cultural world of Bumi Gora West Nusa Tenggara. Delving into the pages of this journal is a captivating experience, not only through the showcasing of various tourism features of the Land of A Million Buffalo, but also through the unveiling of local traditions and lifestyles that are humble yet wise and rich in cultural values. A marriage of photography and a mesmerizing storyline makes this journal an outstanding instrument of communication and information for the tourism industry in regards to the development and the preservation of traditions and culture in West Nusa Tenggara. Thus I hope this journal evokes constructive feedback that will in return benefit the National tourism sector. As the chief of the Police Department of the Republic of Indonesia, I would like to thank the Brigadier General of Police Drs. Arif Wachyunadi for his initiative and of his personal contribution of outstanding artwork. May this book inspire and benefit many people, especially the staff of the National police Department, to understand better and to embrace local values which would be a great support in developing partnerships with ‘stakeholders’ where ever they are assigned Thank you. Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb Jakarta, May 2011 The Chief of The Police Department of RI Drs. TIMUR PRADOPO Police General

Bismillahirrahmaanirrahim Assalamu’alaikum Wr.Wb. I would like to welcome and greatly appreciate the Chief of Police of West Nusa Tenggara and his department, who have contributed in the development of West Nusa Tenggara tourism by publishing “ West Nusa Tenggara - Another Paradise Unveiled” May this photographic journal of information, tourist destinations and cultural events in West Nusa Tenggara, be a portrayal of the province and become a reference for tourists and potential investors to explore and experience West Nusa Tenggara tourism. May this book also facilitate the success of “Visit Lombok Sumbawa 2012”, a tourist campaign introduced by the local government of West Nusa Tenggara province. The islands of Lombok and Sumbawa are widely known not only for their natural beauty, but also for their unique arts and fascinating cultures. These are valuable assets and advantages in developing and promoting the tourism sector. As part of the national sub-ethnic group, West Nusa Tenggara indigenous ethnic groups, characterized by their welcoming and open minded attitude towards others, incoming cultures, consequently will in times experience acculturation. Thus arts and cultures of West Nusa Tenggara are not exclusive of the influences of other ethnic cultures in Indonesia, significantly those of Bali, Java, Bugis and Makassar. Moreover, adoption of Islamic values and practices can be seen in various forms of local art, craft and lifestyle. Hence, I would like to invite the chiefs of the communities, heads of religious groups, leaders of society and other stakeholders to prepare themselves, to improve the presentation of our cultures, to contribute and to participate through works and thoughts actively and to unveil local traditions for the benefit of future tourism to our beloved West Nusa Tenggara. May we all, especially those involved in the cultural and tourism sector, ensure and commit to bring out the full potential of tourism in West Nusa Tenggara province, in the support of local business and the increase of local earnings. Lastly, I humbly request the blessing of the God All Mighty, may the publishing of this book, a depiction of the promising potential of West Nusa Tenggara tourism, benefits us all. Amin Wallahulmuwaafiqu Walhaadi Ila Sabilirrasyad Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb. Gubernur Nusa Tenggara Barat Dr. TGH. M. Zainul Majdi

WEST NUSA TENGGARA - ANOTHER PARADISE UNVEILED
Assalamu’alaikum Wr.Wb. Salam Bumi Gora, I give praise to God All Mighty for the abundance of blessings, providence, wisdom, protection and guidance in unveiling the lands of West Nusa Tenggara. West Nusa Tenggara: Another Paradise Unveiled is a photographic journal undertaken during a personal hiatus whilst on assignment in the province of West Nusa Tenggara. Together with the national police force and the West Nusa Tenggara people, a community partnership was formed to establish safety and order in the province. This partnership supports the development program of West Nusa Tenggara standing on its motto; “To Believe and To Strive”, and also supports the success of “Visit Lombok Sumbawa 2012” tourism campaign which was introduced by the local government of West Nusa Tenggara on the July the 6th, 2009. Spread across the two main islands, the book delves into the lands between the yawning peaks of Mount Rinjani on Lombok Island and Mount Tambora on Sumbawa Island. East to west, the untouched richness and beauty of the landscape is truly breathtaking. Natural reserves boast wondrous waterfalls, pristine white beaches, crystal seas and luscious green valleys. Surrounded by an unblemished maritime, the islands are characterized by traditional villages of friendly and humble local communities. I personally hope this compilation of pictures, shot of the land, sea and its people, will be a unique contribution to the global collection of photography that introduces West Nusa Tenggara to the world. I extend my deepest gratitude to my beloved parents who taught me the meaning of life, my wife and children whom I love dearly and my family and friends for their blessings. I would also like to thank and acknowledge everyone involved, including staff members and the communities of West Nusa Tenggara for their support and cooperation in making this partnership a success. Presenting this diary for the people of West Nusa Tenggara. Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb. Kapolda West Nusa Tenggara Brigjen Pol Drs. Arif Wachjunadi

Lakey Beach is a spot well-known by the surfing and wind surfing communities. Your only worry here is trying to catch the perfect wave or finding the right wind.
