” Youth Symphony Orchestra—Filderstadt, Germany Maestro Robert Wieland, Orchestra Director The Music School in Filderstadt, Germany, (a suburb of Stuttgart) is a communal educational institution for children, young people and adults. At present about 1,500 pupils are taught by 70 teachers. Fifty pupils from all over the region are playing in the Youth Symphony Filderstadt. The Musikschule Filderstadt resembles our University of Hartford: Hartt School Community Division. This is their third trip to the USA. Previously they have visited Chicago and Indianapolis. Robert Wieland studied viola and conducting at the conservatories in Mannheim and Stuttgart. He played viola at the „Wurttembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen“ and other orchestras in South-Germany. In 1987 he started teaching viola and violin at the school of music in Filderstadt. Today he leads 4 orchestras at the school of music, the Bach-Orchestra, sinfonietta, New Chamber Orchestra and the Youth Sinfony Orchestra. Robert founded in 1996 and conducts since then the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra in Filderstadt. He is conductor of the Reutlingen Chamber Orchestra and the Bosch-String Soloist. With Bosch Robert Wieland conducted concerts in England, Spain and Czech Republic. In April 2017 he conducted fort he first time the Stuttgart Chamber orchestra in a combined concert with the Bosch String Soloists. In June 2017 he conducted at the Gustav Mahler festival in Jihlava. Paul Pierce serves as Director of Windsor High School’s Orchestra and teaches 3rd – 5th grade strings at John F. Kennedy Intermediate School. Dr. Pierce is a cellist in the Holyoke Civic Symphony. He serves as CT Northern Region Orchestra Chair. Dr. Pierce enjoys inspiring students to reach ambitious goals and to earn satisfaction in their solo, chamber and large ensemble music-making. His students have won solo competitions and have been accepted to NEMFA, NAfME All-National and All-Eastern Honors Ensembles, and CMEA All-Region, and All-State festivals.
