You Have Completed Driver Education – What is the Next Step for Me? After you have completed your required driving, observation and classroom instruction and your parent or guardian has attended the required Parent/Guardian meeting, your driver education course is complete. Bring your Yellow card, permit (or a copy) along with a check for $15.00 payable to Mass D.O.T. to the Acton-Boxborough Driver Education/Community Education office located at 15 Charter Rd. (the Administration Building). Your information will be processed and sent to the RMV. There are Three Options for Taking the Road Test
Option One Student goes to the RMV with a parent/guardian or anyone over 21 years of age with a valid Massachusetts driver license. The car used must be in good working order with a current inspection sticker and an emergency brake located between the driver and front passenger seats. Approximately 3 – 5 business days after A-B Community Ed submits your paperwork to the RMV, students can go online to www.mass.gov/rmv and schedule a Road Test. The scheduling process may take 20 minutes or more. Please be patient. A helpful hint: We recommend students pre-pay for their License and Road Test while on-line. This will save time waiting at the RMV on the day of the Road Test. Fees: $85 to Mass. D.O.T. ( $50 for the license, $35 for the road test)
Option Two A Community Ed. Instructor takes the student to the RMV for a Road Test in one of our vehicles. Community Ed. Charges $85 for this service. Approximately 3-5 business days after A-B Community Ed submits your paperwork to the RMV, students can go online to www.mass.gov/rmv and schedule their road test at the Leominster RMV, Monday – Friday at either 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, or 12 noon. Once a road test is booked, the student should call Rich Dushanek at the Community Education Office (978-266-2525) with the appointment information. Rich will schedule an instructor and confirm the appointment within 72 hours. On the day of the test, our instructor will pick up the student at the AB Regional High School (front circle) one hour before the scheduled appointment. The instructor will do a short review of maneuvers and arrive on time at the RMV. After the test, the student will return to school. Please note: If Comm. Ed. is taking your child to the RMV, we require that you pre-pay the RMV for the Road Test. Our instructor availability is subject to change during school vacations and over the Summer. Students need to check with Rich Dushanek at these times for instructor availability. Fees: $85 to Mass. D.O.T. ($50 for the license, $35 for the road test) and $85 to A-B Community Ed.
Option Three: Student participates in a group road test in Leominster on a Saturday/Sunday. Note: Comm. Ed. does not transport students to the RMV. Parent/Guardian needs to transport student to RMV. Community Ed. charges $70 for this service. Students may sign up for a Saturday/Sunday test when they drop off their Yellow card. After the RMV confirms our Saturday/Sunday slot, A-B Comm. Ed. will confirm the road test date with the students and each student must then call the RMV and pre-pay for a License and Road Test. The number for the RMV is 1-800-858-3926. This is important. We cannot take students who have not pre-paid for a road test. Students will be contacted during the week prior to the test date with their specific time slot and instructions. Fees: $85 to Mass. D.O.T. ($50 for the license, $35 for the test) and $70 to A-B Community Ed. For any of these options, a fully executed Road Test Form is required. It can be found at: www.massrmv.com/rmv/forms/21844.pdf You will not be allowed to conduct your road test without this form. We strongly recommend that anyone going to the RMV with Community Ed. drop off a copy of the form to the Community Ed. office before your test date.
