GOAL 1: Improve student performance in READING across the curriculum. Identified Need (NEED) Performance Target (PT) Action Steps (AST) NEED: Maintain and increase reading competency across the curriculum at the State of VT Level

PT: Exceed the State of Vermont’s average by 5% AST: Continued development and implementation of balanced literacy program using primarily Fountas & Pinnell (F & P) Assessments and data resources.  Continued implementation of the F&P program and use of building-based coaches who will get support from Lesley College consultant. (B,C)  Establishment of literacy blocks (A)  Assess students individually using DIBELS, Rossner, Running Record, Leveled Books Assessment, F&P Reading Kit or similar assessment tool to target necessary skills. (B)  Assess all students with MAP to identify growth.  Focus on reading across the curriculum. (AB)  Professional Development for F& P Program (C)  School-wide literacy coaching.

WRITING skills across the content areas.

Identified Need (NEED) Performance Target (PT) Action Steps (AST) NEED: Increase number of students nearly proficient to proficient in writing.

PT: We will increase by 5% our school’s writing index on SBAC from the VT DOE for each year of our action plan.) AST: To increase all students’ ability to write effectively when given on demand writing prompts, students will demonstrate improvement in grammar usage and mechanics in these pieces. The following will assist with this improvement:  Students’ writing K-6 will be assessed fall and spring using school-wide prompts. (A & B)  Publish student writing. (sharing, publications & classroom websites) (A)  Young Authors’ Night 2014/15 (A)  Balanced Literacy blocks (A)  Using the Fountas & Pinnell writing workshop process. Improve skills K-6 Identified Need (NEED) Performance Target (PT) Action Steps (AST) NEED: Increase the number of students nearly proficient to proficient on NECAP science, administered in Grade 4. PT: We will increase by 5% our school’s science index (stated in the NECAP Accountability Report from the VT DOE) for each year of our action plan.

PT: Teachers will increase use of performance technology in teaching and students will increase use in learning as defined by the ISTE Standards AST:  Maintain & replace classrooms smart boards, document cameras and other technology tools.  Offer comprehensive technology professional development. for teachers in collaboration with WCSU Director of Technology .  Continued development of TES classroom websites for student publications and communication with parents.  ISTE Standards for students.  Keyboarding

PLAN OVERVIEW The Townshend Elementary School Action plan was developed following the Vermont State Education Guidelines. As noted, this plan incorporated our Title 1 Schoolwide Plan to ensure alignment and focus implementing our improvement process.
