PROJECT OVERVIEW
PROJECT BENEFITS • Safer crossings for pedestrians. • Upgrade bicycle facility from painted buffer to physically separated from moving traffic. • Center two-way left turn lane provides refuge for motorists turning into driveways or cross streets. • At the intersections, neither right nor left turning motorists will impede traffic; and left turning motorists will only have to cross one lane of traffic.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is completing their utility work on Dexter Ave N for the north portal of the SR 99 tunnel. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has the opportunity to leverage their restoration work and make Dexter Ave N a safer street for all users. After analyzing the traffic data, SDOT is proposing to rechannelize the street from four lanes to three, with a center two-way left turn lane and right turn pockets. Additionally, the bicycle facility will be next to the curb, buffered from moving traffic by the parking lane.
