SCHOOL BOARD STUDY SESSION Thursday, August 13, 2015 6:00 p.m. Education Center – Community Room 121 A and B
Minutes Dr. Queener shared with the board possible scenarios that would be receiving action/approval at our August 25, 2015 School Board meeting in regards to the dissolving of Oak Land Cooperative. At this time St. Francis has voted to withdraw from Oak Land Cooperative. Princeton will be taking formal action on August 18 at their school board meeting to withdraw also. If they are approved to withdraw, Cambridge-Isanti alternative learning would be a standalone program. If Princeton does not withdraw, administration would recommend Cambridge-Isanti withdraw from the cooperative. As there needs to be 2 partners involved to be a cooperative, by withdrawing and becoming a standalone program, the cooperative will dissolve and no longer exist. Should the Cooperative dissolve, there is a formula to disperse assets, monies and everything involved in Oak Land Cooperative so that each district would receive a proportional share of the proceeds. The Bridge Street building and Oak Land East building are both owned by the cooperative and hence the governing board would determine next steps with regard to those assets. Mr. Winter discussed options that would be considered moving forward should the cooperative dissolve. As Cambridge-Isanti has a large number of students in the ALC, he feels this would benefit the opportunity to explore these options. We need to do research and find all the options available to best fit the needs of students. As the options are developed, further information will be forthcoming to the board for consideration. Ms. Crocker distributed to the school board a document showing Oak Land Cooperative Financial information for 2014-2015. She reviewed the revenue and expenditures of the Cooperative stating that Oak Land Cooperative approximate annual budget is $2,000,000. A question was posed as to what will happen with Oak Land Personnel? Ms. Lines shared with the board, the staff at Oak Land Cooperative do have rights to positions. However, exactly how those rights could be exercised is something that will need further analysis and legal guidance Any proposed change will not be effective until the 2016-2017 school year. The Oak Land Cooperative will operate as is for the upcoming year. Adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
