Mission Statement As a community, we will instill in every child a vision to graduate, providing a comprehensive, safe, challenging and effective learning environment that prepares students to be career and college ready.

Superintendent's Highlights The 2015-16 school year provided many achievements for the Humboldt County School District to celebrate. Parents, staff and students continue to work on providing outstanding educational and extracurricular opportunities that improve the success of everyone in the communities. Graduation results continue to climb as students’ needs are being met and alternatives to traditional education are expanded. Part of this has been accomplished with an increased use of student performance and school data for all staff. Community partnerships such as those with our local mining companies and related vendors continue to be strengthened providing additional educational and extracurricular resources and money to the district and individual students. New partnerships include a relationship with the local Boys and Girls Club which is being constructed and even prior to opening works in conjunction with the district to provide supplementary services to students. The staff of Humboldt County continues to tackle new challenges and have worked to bridge the gap with new teachers, including supporting a New Teacher Mentorship program to expedite the effectiveness in the classroom.

Goals and Objectives Goal 1: Humboldt County School District K-8 Teachers will implement the use of the Lucy Calkins Units of Study in Writing as a pilot study for 2015-2016 school year as measured by quarterly genre specific writing samples at all grades and implementation of focused genres with corresponding rubrics. Objective 1: All K-8 students will be exposed to four different genres of writing and have a pre/post sample of writing indicating a targeted area of growth each quarter as measured by Lucy Calkins rubrics at the beginning and ending of each quarter by grade level.-or-Each grade level will create a baseline of expectations for each genre developing a beginning of genre expectation and an end of genre expectation for specific skills in that area of study to be accomplished with the use of student writing samples and the beginning stages of anchor papers (pre/post), quarterly. Goal 2: Humboldt County School District K-8 Teachers will pilot the Eureka Math materials K-8th to be measured by implementation checklists and staff surveys to be completed quarterly throughout the 2015-2016 school year. Objective 1: Option #1: 100% of K-8th students will meet or exceed their Math MAP goal demonstrating a years worth of growth or more measured by Fall 2015 to Spring 2016 Math Map scores. Option #2: 100% of grade levels will share artifacts and charts of struggles and successes of implementation in four quarterly surveys. Based on these reflections, grade levels will determine if additional professional development or resource materials are needed the following school year. Option #3: 100% of K-8th Administrators will complete implementation checklists quarterly and report their school level of implementation of Eureka Math.

District Communication Efforts Humboldt County School District continues to improve parent engagement in the educational processes of the district. For parents all K-8 students have parent teacher conferences twice each school year. This is in addition to student orientation nights at all 5-12 schools that take place prior to school beginning and open houses which all school conduct in September. For 9-12 schools the focus has become College and Career Fairs twice annually for students and parents to understand what each endeavor holds. HCSD continues to utilize SchoolMessenger for attendance calls and also general informational calls, emails and texts to parents. Our most popular means of communication continues to be Facebook and the parents and student portals Website:www.nevadareportcard.com

into the Student Information System.

Discipline HCSD takes pride in being a safe and supportive environment for students, parents and staff. This past year extensive time was spent learning, training and implementing the new legislation regarding bullying. Administrators and staff worked to not only be compliant with the law, yet to also educate students and parents on ensuring students are safe and also the process for dealing with issues appropriately when they arise.
