Family Affair: Have you ever wondered about your family’s history? In this class, you will explore genealogy and complete a documentary telling your family’s story. Get ready to enhance your interview and research skills as you create your family tree and examine your roots. Life is Art... And Art is Life!: Were Jackson Pollock's splatter paintings the result of an earthquake.. or a crazy, chaotic life? We'll look at several different artists and examine the effect that major personal and pop culture events had on their art, and create an art piece that reflects your own experiences. As we work, we'll make a timeline of both cultural and artistic moments. Money! Money! Money! : Do you dream of being your own boss and making LOADS of CASH? In this class, you will learn all about how to become an entrepreneur and even design your own business! You will also examine some of the world’s most famous entrepreneurs along the way. Join us and explore what it takes to be successful in business! “Quilty” as Charged: Math can be beautiful and colorful when you see it in a quilt. Quilts are full of math—from the obvious geometrical shapes to fractions, symmetry, area and much more. No need to feel guilty, come get “quilty”! Explore real math hidden within quilt designs. Rocket Power: 5…4…3…2…1…Lift-Off! Are you ready to design your own rocket? In this class, you will learn all about aerodynamics, gravity, balance, apogee, drag and thrust and their role in a successful launch. If you love problem solving or dream of becoming an aerospace engineer, this class is for you! Phabulous Photojournalists: Communication is powerful when you capture what you observe through the lens of a camera. Come learn the ins and outs of photojournalism while you publish the official SPARK camp newspaper! You will capture stories from each class and share every tidbit with the masses. Your summer enrichment will inspire others for a long time to come! Sequels!: Did Jim Hawkins return to the sea after the conclusion of “Treasure Island”? Do Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn have further adventures as adults? In this class, you will get to pick your favorite character from literature and give them a new life! Let your imagination run wild as you write new adventures for old friends. The fate of the character is in your hands!

The Wondrous Wonders of the World: The Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Pyramids of Egypt, and the Statue of Zeus. Do any of these remarkable structures sound familiar? Come explore these Wonders of the Ancient World built over 2,000 years ago. Examine how their construction was possible, why they were built, and why ancient travelers wrote about these incredible sights.

Not Your Everyday Board Game: What does it take to design your own board game? From start to finish, there are many things for board game designers to consider. In this class, you will evaluate various strategy board games in order to effectively design your own game. You will use elements of all subject areas to create a theme for the game, design the board, establish the rules of play, write concise instructions, and test and modify your game so that everyone can enjoy your creation!

Scrappton: What does it take to plan and build a city or town? Do you like to write stories, poems, songs, or create your own commercials? In this class, you will be able to do just that. With your classmates you will create a town or city called Scrappton. You will design and build a model of your very own building within the Scrappton city limits and create a way to promote it.

Elementary - Afternoon Aphrodite to Zeus: Are you ready to become an expert on bloodthirsty Minotaurs and the fire-breathing Chimera? Here, you will explore the exciting Greek myths of how Jason stole the Golden Fleece, Pandora opened her box, and Perseus defeated Medusa. Come find out the secrets and legends of the Greeks that will leave you breathless and dying to know more! Botany Bliss: Can seeds fly? Are there really carnivorous plants? You’ll explore these questions and take a closer look at photosynthesis and all things plants like you’ve never done before! Get out your microscopes and magnifying glasses and get ready for some fun experiments to uncover the magic of plants all around us! Everyday Engineers: Do you ever wonder how redesigning something might make it better? Now is your chance to see if you can rise to the challenge. Using provided supplies, you will have the opportunity to put your engineering abilities to the test. See if you can come up with a solution to the real world challenge that is put before you. Golden Bridges: Can you build the Golden Bridge? Here, you will learn the rich history of bridges—from old rickety structures to structurally sound metal creations. You will put your knowledge to the test and build your own bridge! Will your bridge stand up to the test or become firewood for your next campfire? Come find out! Lights, Camera, Action: Have you ever wanted to write your own movie? Well let’s start with a play! This class will look at the writing process and will let you create, cast, and act out an original work of your own. No Passport Needed: Have you ever wanted to travel the world? In this class, the mathematical experience revolves around expanding your view of the world. You will see beyond the borders of your own city, state, and country and learn using mathematical methods and problem solving from other countries!

(Current 5 - 8 Graders) Middle - Morning CSI: Durham: Have you ever wondered how crimes are solved? Come and see how science is used to examine DNA evidence, match fingerprints to suspect, analyze blood splatter, and much more. You’ll practice your forensic investigation skills and unravel the evidence to identify the most likely suspects. Design your Dream Home: Explore the wonderful world of geometry and design your very own dream home. From the properties of polygons to lines and circles, put your geometry knowledge and calculation skills to the test. Let your inner architect emerge! Hip-Hop Activism: Is Hip-Hop just a genre of dance and music? Or could it be something more? In this class, you will learn about the roots of hip-hop and examine its role in movements throughout our country’s history. From hip-hop as a culture to hip-hop as a tool for social change, come explore how hip-hop can help you advocate for a cause that’s important to you. Science Fiction Fanatics: How have our depictions of the future changed over time in science fiction? Through literature, television shows, and movies, you will explore this question and investigate how contemporary issues influence our conception of an ideal future. Star Wars, Isaac Asimov, Star Trek, Back to the Future and other examples of enduring science fiction will guide your exploration. Slam! The Art and Action of Spoken Word: Flip poetry from the page to the stage, National Poetry Slam championship style! Learn how poetry has communicated the story of mankind since the beginning of language. Then, you will do the gritty work of inquiring into your own personal and cultural history to write poetry that speaks the story of you and your generation, and perform it in our culminating Poetry Slam.

Middle-Afternoon Basketball Bracketology: Do you want to conquer March Madness bracketology? In this class, you will learn the basics of basketball statistics. The week will culminate with the creation of an interactive spreadsheet to more accurately predict the winner of the NCAA Championship! Encryption for the Amateur: Are you ready to crack the code? In this intriguing class, you will learn the mathematics of basic encryption, invent your own ciphers, discuss relevant historical events, and learn mathematical concepts that often aren’t seen until college! Let the decoding begin as our web of murder, mayhem and intrigue unfolds! First in Flight: Have you ever flown in an airplane? Did you wonder how it worked? In this class you will explore the basic principles of aeronautics and the evolution of flight. Applying your new found knowledge, you will design and construct your own propelled airplane, and race your classmates to the finish line. Jack Out of the Beanstalk: Have you ever put on a pair of pants you outgrew? Have you ever sat in a chair that was too small or too big? In this class, you will investigate ratio and proportion by designing a more comfortable life for a "giant" or a “teeny tiny person” who lives in your community. What would you have to modify and construct to create a better fit? Take Me Out to the Ballgame: Baseball has been a fixture in popular culture since the 1850s. From peanuts and cracker jacks to Bull Durham, America's favorite past-time has the power to evoke old memories and make new ones. We will examine popular culture from food to poetry and music to film to study how baseball has influenced American culture. Tessell What?: Tessellations are intricate and interesting repeated patterns that create stunning works of art. In this class, science and math come together! You will create your own tessellations based on geometric principles while also exploring where tessellations can be found in the natural world. The works of artists like M.C. Escher will also be examined for inspiration.
