COLLEGE ADMISSIONS & APPLICATIONS WORKSHOPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS Class of 2019 SENIORS Class of 2018
Located in the rolling hills of Painted Post, New York, Watson Homestead hosts education programs, corporate meetings, Road Scholar, weddings, family reunions and groups seeking retreat and renewal. We are situated 10 minutes away from downtown Corning and the Corning Museum of Glass. 30 minutes to our north, you may enjoy Watkins Glen, The Finger Lakes Wine Trail and Seneca Lake. We welcome all people, small and large groups. Our staff will serve you with attention to detail and comfort.

Two programs will be offered. The first for Juniors (Class of 2019). The second for Seniors (Class of 2018). Fees include program, lunch each day, and separate evening for parents. Full and partial scholarships are available. No one will be turned away due to financial challenges. First generation college/university applicants are encouraged to apply. COLLEGE ADMISSIONS DIRECTORS Barbara Bergman was the Director of College Counseling at Georgetown Day High School in Washington, D.C. During her 30 years of college counseling experience, Barbara was also the Associate Director of Admissions at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She comes to us with the advantage of having been “on both sides” of the college admissions process, and of having parented her own children through the college process. Barbara directed the 2016 Watson Homestead College Admissions program. Rachel Petrella is the Director of College Guidance at Pacific Ridge School in California. Rachel has also held this position at La Jolla Country Day in California, Brooks School in North Andover, MA, and most recently at The Hewitt School in New York City. Rachel has also served as Associate Publisher with Laurel Glen Publishing and a literary agent. She has experience in marketing and contracts for athlete agents. Rachel served on the faculty for the UCSD College Counseling Certificate program and has run summer workshops in college guidance for the town of Andover, MA, her hometown. She earned a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire and an M.A. from New York University. Sheila Reilly is the Director of College Counseling at The Madeira School in suburban Washington, DC. Prior to her 23 years at Madiera, Sheila served as the Director of Admissions at New England College in West Sussex UK for 6 years. Sheila has Upstate NY roots. She grew up west of Rochester and attended the University of Rochester for her master’s degree in counseling. Sheila participated in the inaugural Watson College Admissions program last year.

• Key factors in the 4-year college admissions process. • How to get started with the college search process. • Developing the “short list” of colleges. • College/university requirements for admission. • Review of standardized testing options and dates.
• Options for accessing financial aid.
• What rising juniors can do to strengthen their college admissions resume.
• Different types of 4-year college admissions programs and timelines.
• College admissions simulation.
• Students will learn how to compile a thoughtful college list (to match needs, interests and backgrounds).
PARENT EVENING June 26, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Topics will include: • All topics above will be covered. In addition, parents will have multiple opportunities to ask questions. We will also talk about ways to support your child throughout the college process.
