About our Team and

Coach Greg and Coach Ryan have been coaching together with the

Coaches

Dynamo for over 2 years, starting with our core group at the U11 age group. Both are committed to the long-term success and growth of the team and all our players. Coach Greg has been coaching soccer for more than 5 years and is a US Soccer ‘E’ Level licensed coach. He is holds himself to the same standard of growth as he does the team and is constantly learning and growing as a coach. Part of that development will be the pursuit of the next level US soccer licensing during the upcoming season. When evaluating players at tryouts we will be looking for boys who have a reasonably solid technical foundation, are athletic, have good attitudes and are receptive to coaching. We want hard working, quality, young men who are committed to their own growth and the growth and success of the team.

Coach Philosophy and Team Culture

The purpose of this team is to develop the boys into better soccer players while building positive character traits (such as competitiveness, hard work, sportsmanship, discipline, honesty, fair play, teamwork) that will be of life long benefit. We are committed to organizing the team so that we can have as much success on the field as possible. Our expectation is to play at as high a level as the team is able to be competitive. The better the competition we face the faster that the team and players will develop. Our hope is to build upon the team we’ve had and continue to have the boys connect well with one another and grow together on and off the pitch.

At this age group (now called U14) with children 12 and 13 years old, we are transitioning into the intermediate level of soccer development. While technical skills continue to be critical, trainings will incorporate larger spaces and more tactical awareness and decision making during the flow of play. This means things like situational awareness, strategic play, combination play will develop more rapidly and be a focus in training.

Approach to Training and Player Development

The boys will be in some phase of significant physical growth and development as they enter adolescence. This will occur at different times for each player and will impact both their thinking and their physical abilities. It’s expected and will require patience for player, coach and parents. This will also require trainings that have elements that build strength and endurance and we will be helping the boys to work through the challenges of rapid change in their physical ability. There is still not an expectation of specialization at this age and we will want to give players the opportunity to play multiple positions to encourage well-rounded development. However, our goal is to put players into the role where they have the best chance to succeed or opportunity to grow and to help the team. This may mean players do have “primary” positions where they have the highest comfort level. Also at this age we believe that the boys should be understanding and taking responsibility in many aspects of their lives. Our expectation is that schoolwork is first. If our athletes are missing assignments or struggling in class we will work with the parents on a proper approach.

We will also be discussing other areas that can help them become better people on and off the pitch, taking responsibility for their health and nutrition, leadership, teamwork, dealing with social pressures and the like. This is competitive level soccer. We expect our players to come ready to compete at trainings and games. Players should expect to grow in their skills and understanding of the game as well as develop a more competitive mindset. For this upcoming year, trainings will all include some level of competition within the squad in order to foster the desire to be successful on the field.

Expectations for Competitiveness and Playing Time

There is no guarantee for playing time for any player, or at any specific position and a lot of factors go into those decisions. Our commitment is to carry enough kids to field the best team while limiting the roster so we can provide all our players a reasonable amount of playing time. Some players will play much more but everyone on our team is important and will see plenty of match play. We will place kids on the field where we feel they can bring the most to the team. All player and positional decisions are the sole purview of the coaching staff.
