EYE LEVEL ENGLISH NATIONAL QUIZ BEE The Eye Level English National Quiz Bee is a newly conceptualized annual competition designed to showcase the literary knowledge and English language proficiency of both Eye Level and non-Eye Level members. The competition aims to provide an opportunity for students to socialize, encourage them to be involved in extracurricular activities, and acquire sportsmanship. Exhibit your passion and join us in our first year! Contest Information Eligibility 1. The Eye Level English National Quiz Bee is open to all grade school students from Grades 3-6. Selection of participants will be on first-come-first-serve basis (first 200 participants per level). 2. The Quiz Bee is categorized into four (4) divisions:    

Grade 3 division Grade 4 division Grade 5 division Grade 6 division

3. Schools can send at most five (5) participants per division. 4. Appointment of coach per division and/or school is optional. The coach must be a duly appointed regular teaching staff of the school. He/She will be the school’s representative in case of protests or complaints. 5. Each participant/school must submit their completed registration forms* no later than January 15, 2017 through any of the following means: 

Scanned and e-mailed to [email protected] with the subject “Registration – (Center/School name)”.

*A back-to-back scanned/photocopied current school ID of each student participant must be attached in the completed registration form. 6. A Registration Fee of Php250 per participant may be paid upon submission of the completed registration form. Payment can be hand carried to Eye Level Head Office or deposited under the account name, CIRCA MIND INC. (Metrobank Pioneer – Mandaluyong Branch) with account number 248-7-248807977. Once the payment has been made, send the scanned copy/a photo of the bank payment slip at the e-mail given above as proof of payment.

Venue Singson Hall, Ateneo de Manila University Remarks 1. All questions will be taken from the Eye Level English program, with the exception of the clincher. 2. In cases of protest, the contest officials will have to present evidences based on the primary sources. Only the teacher-coach and/or the participant are allowed to make a protest. 3. All participants must wear their proper school uniform (with school ID). 4. No mobile phones, tablets, or any other electronic communication devices are allowed during the competition. If a contestant is found to have a device in his/her possession during the contest proper, his/her team will be automatically disqualified from the contest. 5. Participants are not allowed to ask any questions to the competition officials. 6. No substitutions to the contestants will be allowed on the day of the competition. 7. Only the participants and their coach are allowed in the contest area. Parents and guardians have to stay in designated waiting areas. 8. Failure to comply with the rules of the competition may result to automatic disqualification. 9. The decision of the JUDGES is final and non-appealable. 10. Eye Level, in its sole discretion reserves the right to modify/amend any part of the contest rules in any way, at any time for any reason without prior notice.

Contest Flow 1. Each participant must sign in the attendance/registration sheet designated at the entrance of the venue prior to the start of the competition. Each participant will be assigned a number upon registration. This will also correspond to the area he will be occupying during the competition. Failure to register 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the contest proper forfeits the participant’s chance to join the competition. 2. Before the start of the competition proper, each participant will be given a marker and sheets of A3 paper to be used to answer each question. The quizmaster will then perform a roll call of all participating schools. 3. The quiz bee will be composed of 45 questions which are distributed into three rounds namely: EASY (20 questions), AVERAGE (15 questions) and DIFFICULT (10 questions).

a. Easy Round - 5 points / 10 seconds per question b. Average Round - 10 points / 20 seconds per question c. Difficult Round - 15 points / 30 seconds per question 4. Each question has this sequence: a. All participants will answer the same set of questions in writing. Before the question is read, the participants must raise their markers. b. The questions will be read by the quizmaster twice. The question will also be projected on-screen. c. After the second (2nd) reading, the quizmaster shall say “GO”, only then the participants will be allowed to write their answers. Automatically, the timer will begin with the word “GO” by the quizmaster. d. The participants will write their answer on the paper but should conceal their answer sheets to prevent cheating. Answers must be written in capital letters, and not in cursive. The spelling must be correct and abbreviation and the use of acronyms will not be allowed. e.

After the time-limit, a buzzer will be rung by the time-keeper. The quizmaster will say “TIME IS UP!”. The participants must stop writing and must raise their answer sheets. Failure to do so will invalidate the participant’s answer for that question.

The quizmaster will announce the correct answer for the question. The answer will also be projected on-screen. Competition officials shall read and verify the participants’ answer.

g. Any protest shall be addressed to the contest official. A deliberation shall follow right after the protest has been raised. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable. Any protest given after the reading of the next question will no longer be entertained. h. A point will be credited to the contestant with a correct answer. There will be no penalty for wrong and no answers. i.

The quizmaster will perform a roll call of participants (number only) / schools with correct answers. The points each participant earned will then be listed onto the score board.

j. Once the participant’s number is called, the participant can lower the answer sheet and secure a clean sheet of paper in preparation for the next question. 5. After each round, only the top scoring participants will move up to the next round. The total score in each round will be carried over to the next round. Easy Round - Participants with 50 points and up Average Round - Participants with 125 points and up 6. After the three rounds, the participants with the TOP THREE ( 3 ) highest scores will be declared as the Champion, 2nd Prize Winner, and 3rd Prize Winner. 7. If there is a tie, a CLINCHER question will be given to break the tie. The fastest participant to raise the answer sheet with the correct answer wins the spot.

Check eligibility for the division the student wishes to participate in.

Upon arrival, sign in the attendance/registration sheet designated at the entrance of the venue.

Fill out the registration form completely. Occupy the assigned seat/area. Scan/photocopy current school ID of the participant and attach to the completed registration form.

Receive/check writing materials to be used for the competition.

Submit / send (via e-mail) the registration form with required attachment to: [email protected]

The quizmaster will perform a roll call of all participating schools to mark the start of the competition proper.
