2017 MDOT TRAC Bridge Competition

Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) State Highway Transportation Officials TRAC (Transportation and Civil Engineering) Program to schools in Michigan. TRAC is a hands-on education program designed for integration into science, math and social science classes. 2017 bridge competition was held on 4/18/2017 at Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids. There are 191 teams from Michigan schools competed this year. The bridge type is based on grade levels: 7th – 8th Grade: Truss Bridge 9th – 10th grade: Cantilever Bridge 11th – 12th grade: Tied Arch Bridge The program involves research, design, simulation, building bridges, compose portfolios and presentations. There are 4 teams from Meads Mill and Northville High Schools participated the program, and qualified to compete at state level and are among the few winners statewide. Our state governor Rich Snyder visited the site during the competition.

Two of the teams qualified for National (AASHTO) on May 23 in Portland, ME.

Cantilever Bridge Team 1 (9th – 10th grade) with Governor: Disha Satapathy Pranav Rakkappan Rishab Lanka The team won 2nd place in the state. Will compete at National (AASHTO) on 5/23/2017

Tied Arch Bridge Team (11th – 12th grade) with Governor: Angela Lee Shachi Salvi Gillian Zayan

Cantilever Bridge team 2 (9th – 10th grade) won 4th place in the state Sanjana Dhulipalla Rohith Kesamneni Addison Zhang

Truss Bridge team (7th – 8th grade) won 1st place award in the state. Will compete at National (AASHTO) on 5/23/2017 Amanda Zhang Rohan Dhulipalla Arthur Zhao
