SYNOPSIS BRIEF DESCRIPTION Study of the Spanish economy, its current situation and recent developments in different areas: economic growth, productive structure, economic institutions, labor and capital markets, macroeconomic policies and external sector.

PRE-REQUISITES The student should have taken previously microeconomics, macroeconomics, and basic descriptive statistics and methods of applied economics.

OBJECTIVES The goal of this course is to provide to students knowledge on the Spanish economy and its main characteristics in the last decades. The approach we take for the analysis of the Spanish economy is based on the comparison with other countries, with special emphasys in the EU although also with the rest of the World. As a consequence, this course also facilitates a better understanding of the global economy. Furthermore, being a course of applied economics, it provides the student with the concepts and tools needed to understand economic theory.

COMPETENCES General: CG1, CG2 y CG4. Transversal: CT1, CT2 y CT3. Specific: CE1, CE4, CE5 y CE7.

LEARNING METHODOLOGY A mixed methodology of teaching and learning will be used in all educational activities with the aim of encouraging students to develop a collaborative and cooperative attitude in the pursuit of knowledge.

EVALUATION CRITERIA In order to pass the course, each student needs to obtain both continuous assessment and final exam at least 35% of the maximum feasible grade. In the “convocatoria ordinaria” it will be considered that the student has taken the course (and graded accordingly) if he/she participates in the course tests and exercises. In the “convocatoria extraordinaria” it will be considered that the student has taken the course (and graded accordingly) if he/she takes the final exam.
