Explain the protection of thyristors against all possible abnormal conditions with the help of relevant circuits. What is ‘Phase control’ in connection with SCR circuits? Explain the purpose of free wheeling diode in SCR circuits. Explain the operation of a single phase half controlled converter. Draw the output voltage and current waveforms for a R – L load. A six pulse converter is connected to a 3 – ph, 415V, 50Hz supply is controlling a 440V, 200A dc motor at a speed of 500 r.p.m. The rated speed of dc motor is 750 r.p.m. If the voltage drop in the circuit is to be limited to 15%, calculate i) Triggering angle of converter. ii) Power factor of the system if commutation angle is 150. Explain the behaviour of a set of ‘Two thyristors connected in anti parallel’ When the connected load is RL. Draw the relevant waveforms of load voltage and current.
