Dear Fieldstone Families, On October 17, 2014, all health and physical education classes at Fieldstone Middle School will have the opportunity to participate in a Walkathon. This exciting fundraiser is being held in order to support Respect, Reflect, and Remember Day (3Rs Day), which has been scheduled for May 13, 2015. 3Rs Day is an unforgettable experience for students and the school community alike. The program offers Fieldstone students a firsthand opportunity to hear the stories of individuals who have overcome great challenges and obstacles within their own lives. 3Rs Day has been a memorable event for many Fieldstone students and FMS graduates. We believe this program will continue to be a very special day for our students. All students at Fieldstone Middle School (grades 58) will hear the life stories of people who have inspired, sacrificed, or made contributions to society. This program features survivors of oppression (such as the Holocaust), World War II POWs, local war veterans, athletes with disabilities, philanthropists, and many others who speak about topics such as tolerance, respect, overcoming barriers, and compassion. We hope to provide an outstanding character education experience for the students through this special day. In order to successfully implement 3Rs Day, sufficient funding is needed. We are hoping the school community will join together to support our efforts. The Walkathon is a studentcentered event. During this fundraiser, students will have the opportunity to walk/run as many laps as they can around the length of a soccer field, during a 30 minute period. The average range of laps a student will complete in this period is approximately 58 laps. Prior to the walkathon, students are encouraged to seek sponsorships. Sponsors may include family members, community members, local organizations, etc. However, students should not approach unknown residences and locations in order to obtain donations. To sponsor a student, a monetary amount is donated for every lap a student completes within the aforementioned time period. For example, a patron may pledge $3.00 per lap, and a student may complete 5 laps. Therefore, the patron shall donate $15.00 in total. Additionally, flat donations are also accepted. Once the walkathon is completed, students are responsible for collecting their sponsored donations. All donations should be submitted to your son/daughter’s homeroom teacher by Friday, November 14, 2014. Please note, both cash and checks will be accepted. Checks should be made payable to “Montvale PTO.” In total, we seek to raise $20,000 through student participation and sponsored donations to support this meaningful student experience. We truly appreciate the generosity of the extended Montvale school community. Thank you for your cooperation, participation, and support. Thank you, Erik W. Parks Principal
