WORK STOPPAGE/STRIKE The Florence Township Board of Education opposes the use of work stoppage by employees as a way out of negotiation impasse. The board of education also opposes sanctions and any other types of withdrawal of employee services because of the potential for harmful effects upon student learning and school operation. All employees involved will be considered temporarily suspended pending official board action and all pay and other benefits will be discontinued on that date. The board of education assigns responsibility to the Superintendent to try by all legal means to keep the schools open in the event of a work stoppage by employees. The chief school administrator shall, to the fullest extent possible: A. Remain on the job to oversee staff and students who report to school; B. Maintain communication within the community among parents, teachers and the public; C. Take all reasonable measures to ensure the protection of school personnel and property. In the event of a strike, including a partial strike, a coordinated, mass use of sick leave, or other concerted refusal by staff to perform their assigned duties, the Superintendent is authorized to take whatever emergency steps are deemed necessary for the safety of students, reporting staff and district property. Such steps shall be reported to the board as soon thereafter as administratively possible. Adopted: Reviewed: NJSBA Review/Update: Readopted:
