JONES FIRE UPDATE NORTHWEST INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM 12 Tom Cable, Incident Commander August 30, 2017 Jones Fire community meeting Wednesday, August 30, 2017 6:00 p.m. at the Lowell Fire Hall Yesterday’s operations:
Yesterday, crews reestablished containment lines on the fire’s western edge where the fire jumped existing lines. Fire fighters also completed additional firing operations and vegetation removal along the 1830 road to extend and deepen containment lines. Mop-up continued on the western and southern parts of the fire. The incident management team’s contingency division— Weyerhaeuser and the Oregon Department of Forestry—explored connecting additional roads and ridges as alternate containment lines should the fire come out of the primary containment area.
Today’s operations: Today, crews will focus on conducting burnout operations from the 1830 road on the eastern perimeter toward the fire’s western interior. Snags and rolling debris present a constant hazard. Crews will avoid unsafe areas and fallers with chainsaws will remove hazardous trees to make areas safe for mop up operations along the western and southern perimeters of the fire. Mop-up begins on areas where firing operations occurred in previous shifts. The contingency division will resume exploring alternate containment lines on roads and ridges. Additional hand crews will assist in firing operations beginning this afternoon and into the evening.
