JONES FIRE UPDATE NORTHWEST INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM 12 Tom Cable, Incident Commander September 6, 2017 Yesterday’s operations: It was another busy day for operations as crews continued mopping up the fire's edge as well as attending to the spot fires from the night before. A short time after the Jones fire transferred a Heavy helicopter and 5 hand crews to the Eagle Creek Fire, a 2 acre spot fire started just outside a containment line in the southeast portion of the fire near the 18 Road and Fall Creek. Initially the fire threatened to go south but cooperators were able to quickly close roads and allow firefighters to get in there within 15 minutes of the start. Cooperators worked in concert to get air support quickly on the fire, which made a crucial difference in the suppression effort. The fire team is very grateful for the fantastic level of cooperation and coordination with Weyerhaeuser and Oregon Department of Forestry. Crews continued to scout the edges of the fire, paying attention to green trees that are burning near their crowns and other sources of ignition.
Today’s operations: A fire weather watch continues Wednesday and Thursday with possible thunderstorms causing gusty and erratic winds. Lower temperatures and higher humidities will moderate fire behavior for today but the Haines Index remains at a 4. Crews continue focusing on firming up containment lines and looking for areas that need reinforcing. Some torching and spotting is still anticipated. Fire crews will continue mop-up and control through the different divisions while paying careful attention to the Sunshine Creek area. Other efforts include continuing to improve containment lines and check for spot fires outside the perimeter.
