WEDNESDAY ENVELOPE November 08, 2017
⇒ Honor Roll Presentations: Friday, November 10, following Mass ⇐ Mary, the Perfect Mother Posted by Franciscan Media on Nov 6, 2017 5:45:00 AM Mary’s is the ultimate birth story. She walked through her life at Jesus’ side, loving him with a real human love and at the same time understanding his divine purpose. She bore the tension of living in perfect joy and complete sorrow as she watched her baby boy become our Redeemer. Mary continues to offer herself as an example of what we can be if we too will open our hearts for him to draw near and dwell in us. —from the book Who Does He Say You Are? Women Transformed by Christ in the Gospels by Colleen C. Mitchell Dress Code Reminder We are at the end of the season for wearing shorts to school. No shorts can be worn from November 1 to March 31.

SALVATION ARMY BASKETBALL SIGN-UP FOR THIRD & FOURTH GRADE GIRLS IS COMING SOON!!! To: Parents of 3rd & 4th grade girls at Holy Spirit and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Schools From: Shawn Hazelton & Sean Donnelly, volunteer basketball coaches for Salvation Army Youth Sports Dear Parents, Please consider this an invitation to sign up your daughters for this season’s upcoming Salvation Army basketball leagues. Registration begins December 4, 2017 at the Salvation Army gymnasium office at 11:00 a.m. – there is a limit of only 125 players for the entire league, so parents are advised to arrive promptly at 11:00 a.m. (or earlier) that day to ensure that a spot is available for their child. There are two leagues available: 1. The non-competitive league is conducted first and lasts approximately six weeks. This is a great opportunity for interested children to learn the game in a fun, positive atmosphere with an emphasis on fundamentals and giving all players a chance to participate equally. All players coming out for this league are first put through a skills evaluation at “tryout” night, and are then assigned to their team (emphasis is placed on each team having players of varied experience and skill level to make all teams as equal as possible). Games in this league run for four 10-minute quarters each; game scores & team records are not kept. Coach Hazelton and Coach Donnelly will be coaching a team in this league, but Catholic school players who come out for the league will be distributed amongst several teams due to the tryout/skill evaluation process. 2. Players who wish to continue playing after the non-competitive league ends may join a team for the competitive league. In the competitive league, scores and team records are kept, and teams must register as a team with the roster of players already set. Parents of girls who wish to play for Coaches Hazelton and Donnelly should visit with us during the noncompetitive season and make plans to have their daughters added to the roster (we will be able to accommodate approximately 10 players); or, if your daughter wishes to play for another coach’s competitive league team, be sure to make arrangements early with that coach. We see this year’s 3rd & 4th grade Salvation Army basketball league as a great opportunity for all girls interested in basketball to get an early start on the game in advance of school team play, which begins in 5th grade at Holy Spirit and Our Lady of Lourdes. Our schools consolidated for 5th through 8th grade sports as of fall 2016, so this also gives our daughters a chance to get acquainted with their future middle school and high school teammates. Please watch your school’s Wednesday envelope for more details from the Salvation Army’s youth sports office, and mark your calendars that registration for girls’ 3rd & 4th grade basketball is scheduled to begin this December 4. We wish for all of our Great Falls Catholic Schools girls to have a wonderful year, and for those who are interested, we hope that you will consider
registering them for Salvation Army basketball – we look forward to seeing them there! Sincerely, Coach Shawn Hazelton (father of Kiran, 3rd grade) rd Coach Sean Donnelly (father of Tara, 3 grade) Any questions? Please call or email Sean Donnelly at 788-4558 or at
[email protected]. Thank you!
