Classroom Rules/Expectations and Guidelines Course Description: This course is designed to prepare students to take the AP Calculus exam. The course will build upon students’ knowledge of trigonometry and precalculus topics. The course will cover a wide range of topics such as: Limits, Differentiation, Integration, Logarithmic and Exponential Functions, and Infinity among many others. Topics:   

Limits Differentiation Applications of Integration

  

Applications of Differentiation Integration Integration Techniques

Classroom Materials:  Textbook: Calculus: of a Single Variable, 6th Ed.  TI-83 Graphing Calculator  Students are responsible for all lost or damaged textbooks and other school property such as calculators that will be distributed during the 1st week of school. Rules/Expectations: 1. Students are expected to obey all school rules found in handbook. 2. Students are expected to obey all classroom rules. Failure to meet class rules/expectations will result in discipline as deemed necessary by the teacher; lunchroom detention, parent notification, loss of points, removal from class, referral to office, or other reasonable disciplinary actions.  Show Respect  Be prepared  Be responsible for your own actions  Stay on Task  Listen & Learn 3. You are expected to be quiet, attentive, respectful, and courteous during class. Do not speak when classmates or teacher is talking. Raise your hand to speak during class. 4. Be in your seat and ready to work when bell rings. If a Warm Up problem is on board then you should be in your seat with necessary materials working. 5. Netbooks/Devices should only be used for classroom activities during class. 6. Respect the person and property of others. Keep the room clean. 7. Stay in seat until bell rings. 8. Cell phones can only be used to listen to music while using ear buds/headphones at appropriate times. When using for it music, cell phone must be out of sight. Grading Policy: Homework: Homework will be given nearly every day! Homework is required; it is not an option. Learning of mathematics cannot take place without reinforcing and assessing content through homework.  All homework will be posted on class website.  Homework must be started during class when given class time to work on it. What does not get finished then must be completed after class.  Page number and assignment problems must be written at the top of each homework assignment.  All necessary work and problem should be shown for every problem. When using a calculator, you must still include steps taken to arrive at solution.  Homework will be reviewed in class. Student is responsible to make corrections to incorrect problem to obtain solution.  Homework checks will be done without notice. Several questions from each assignment will be chosen at random to be graded.  AP Practice Exams will be assigned throughout the year with applicable problems assigned.

Binder:    

A math binder is required. It must be separate from other classes. 2” binder is recommended. You need to have three sections containing homework, notes, and test/quizzes. The notebook will be graded on organization, neatness, and thoroughness at least once every 9-week period. When you are absent, you are responsible for any notes or handouts given while out.

Projects:  Projects will be given at least once every 9-week period.  Projects/activities will be given as groups of 2, 3, or 4 or independently.  The value of the project will depend on the length and depth of the activity. Tests/Quizzes:  Quizzes are generally given every week to assess progress and content knowledge.  Quizzes can be announced or “pop quizzes.” The value of each quiz will vary.  Tests are given about every two weeks depending on the unit/chapter.  A cumulative mid-term and final will be given as well.  The value of each test will vary. Late Work:  Any assignment not turned in on time is considered late.  No homework will be accepted late at any time, no matter the circumstances.  A test/quiz can be made up late with a 10% reduction for each day the test/quiz is not taken. Make-Up Work:  Make-up work is work completed after missing school following an excused absence, not an unexcused absence.  When this occurs, the student is responsible for finding the assignment missed from the class website or another classmate. They then must return the assignment within the number of days missed (i.e. if a student misses two days, then they have exactly two days to complete the make-up work). Failure to do so will then turn the make-up assignment into late-work and points will be deducted accordingly.  If there is an extended absence, an arrangement will be made using the teacher’s discretion.  If absence is the result of ISS or OSS, all assigned work is due the day you return. Work that is not turned in will not be accepted. Grading Scale:
