Welcome Back! Dear Parents and Students of St. Robert School: We hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer break and are ready to get started! The staff is well-rested and eager to have you back! Please be advised that school officially begins for Kindergarten—8th grade students on Monday, August 28, 2017 (it is a full day of school). Our hours will remain the same as school begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 2:31 p.m. School also begins on Monday, August 28, 2017 for the 3-Day We Threes and 3-day and 5-day 4/5 Multiage classes. 3-day We Threes Class: 7:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. 3-day 4/5 year old Multiage Class: 7:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. 5-day 4/5 year old Multiage Class: 7:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. School begins on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 for 2-day 3 year old class (7:45 - 10:45 a.m.). BUSING INFORMATION Request for Transportation Variance  State of Michigan Law concerning the transportation of students to and from school requires that all students be transported to/from their home address unless a special “variance request” is made by a parent and granted by the school administration. **This request is used for any extended length of time in excess of one day. Parents should plan for a minimum of three school days for this process to be completed.  Please be aware that no bus variances will be processed or granted between Monday, August 21, 2017 and Friday, September 15, 2017 as bus routes become finalized. Parents who do not complete a bus variance form by the August 18 th deadline must wait until they are again accepted on September 18, 2017.  Bus variances must be turned in to the school office for approval before the change can occur.  A request for Transportation Variance (Bus Variance) is easily accessible on our school website by clicking Forms under the Quick Links Tab.

Please be aware of our on-going safety policies: 1. All parents and visitors to the school during school hours must sign in and leave a photo ID in the school office in exchange for a visitor pass. 2. All field trips will leave from the south lobby (by Music Rm). Teachers will meet the drivers by Mary’s Room. 3. As a reminder, there are no drop-offs in the front of the school or in or around the teacher parking lot on Henry St. Bus riders are the only students allowed to enter via the Henry St. doors before 7:45 a.m. 4. Any parent who would like to walk their child into school must still park in the south lot by the church and use the south entrance. Parents with young children or strollers may use the elevator.

Hot Lunches (Information & Costs)    

A student lunch will cost $3.00 per day ($15.00 per week). An adult lunch will cost $3.25 per day. Milk and snacks will cost 75¢ each. Lunch/Milk cards will be sold in the lunchroom beginning on the SECOND day of school (August 29th) and daily thereafter.

 Hot Lunch will be served Monday, August 28, 2017, but all students should plan to pay with cash this first day.  A “card” will include 5 days worth of meals/milk and will cost $15.00 ($3.00 per meal) for lunch and $3.75 (75¢ each) for milk.  There will also be the option to purchase lunch cards for the full semester (includes lunch for every full day of school for the semester), or for the full year (includes lunch for every full day of school throughout the entire school year). A card for the first semester will cost $258.00 (86 days) and second semester $261.00 (87 days). The full year card will cost $519.00 (173 days).  All lunch/milk cards from last year are expired and will not be accepted.  Free and Reduced Lunches are not available the first week of school according to the rules of the Federal School Lunch Program.  We are in need of help (PIP credit) for all lunches. Please contact the school office if you can help.

Athletics (Fees and Physicals) All athletes must complete the following before they can practice or play: 1. 2. 3.

Submit athletic fee ($40.00 per child/per sport, with a $160.00 maximum per family/per year) for all sports except football and cross country (those fees to be determined). Submit signed athletic contract (via coach). Have a current physical on file with their coach BEFORE the first day of practice.

Coaches—All Seasons (2017—2018)  Stephanie Staley, Athletic Director, will contact coaches individually before each season. There will not be a meeting held on Meet the Teacher Night. Contact Stephanie at (810) 397-4597 or email: [email protected] with any questions or concerns.  A one-time Protecting God’s Children (Virtus) class is required for all new coaches. Go to www.virtus.org and click on registration to view a list of available classes. All coaches and volunteers who have not yet attended this training must attend.  All coaches must also have a Volunteer Code of Conduct form on file.

Additional Sports Info  

Football practice is in the process of being scheduled. Players will be notified. Girls basketball will begin the first week of school, and information will be sent home that week.

Parent Drop-Off and Pick-up Information  There is NO drop off or parking in the Teacher Lot on Henry St.  The Henry St. entrance is a BUS ZONE from 7:00—7:45 a.m. and from 2:00—2:45 p.m.  ALL students in grades 3 year old preschool through 8th grade arriving either by foot or by car MUST enter through the south church parking lot door. Parents with young children or strollers may use the elevator during bus zone times.

 Please be mindful that prompt pick-up of students is important for your children’s safety. Students not picked up on-time are brought to the school office.

 Any student(s) not picked up by 11:00 a.m. (on 1/2 days), 1:00 p.m. on early dismissal days or 2:45 p.m. (on full days) will be sent from the school office to ESP, and parents will be charged $5.00 an hour per child for supervision.

 Detailed drop-off / pick-up procedures can be found on page 5.

Preschool (3 year old & 4/5 Multiage) Drop-off/Pick-up AM ARRIVAL (7:15-7:45 a.m.) 

Parents/Family Members dropping off students must enter via Cherry St. and park in the SOUTH CHURCH PARKING LOT and enter the school through the SOUTH entrance (by the church). Car riders are not allowed to park on Henry St. or enter via the Henry St. entrance.



Parents/Family Members should then proceed to Mary’s Room. The preschool teachers will come down at 7:30 a.m. to collect the children and will proceed up the stairs and to the Preschool room at 7:40 a.m. Parents with younger children or strollers may use the elevator. Parent are welcome to accompany their child up to the Preschool room at 7:40 a.m.

AM PICKUP (10:45 a.m.) 

Parents/Family Members picking up students must park in the SOUTH CHURCH PARKING LOT and enter the school through the SOUTH entrance (by the church). Car riders are not allowed to park on Henry St. or enter via the Henry St. entrance.



Parents/Family Members and students should wait in the hallway near Mary’s Room. The preschool teachers will bring the children down to rejoin their parents for dismissal (10:45 a.m.).

LATE ARRIVALS (Students arriving after 7:45 a.m. are considered late.) 

The stairway door will be locked between the hours of 7:45 a.m. to 2:31 p.m.



Late preschool students (7:45 a.m. and later) and parents must enter via the Henry St. entrance.



ALL LATE ARRIVALS MUST SIGN IN AND RECEIVE A PASS TO ADMIT THEM TO CLASS.

ATTENTION: BACK-TO-SCHOOL PICNIC/MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT THURSDAY, AUGUST 24, 2017 As we prepare to begin another school year full of opportunities and excitement, let's take some time to relax, have some fun, eat some good food, and set a positive tone for the 17-18 school year. Come and meet your teacher, get acquainted with your classroom, receive a welcome packet, and drop off school supplies! Stop by the St. Robert Activity Center anytime between 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. for some good food and fellowship. Hot dogs, chips, and cookies will be provided. Teachers will be in their classrooms from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. It is imperative to start the year off on the right foot by bridging the gap between home and school through building a strong foundation of ongoing communication. The goal is for each student to have a positive and ultra-successful school year!

2+1 Program

TUITION

St. Robert School is again offering a 2 + 1 class for the first & second semesters of this school year for $25 per semester. Come and enjoy some quality time in a faithbased playgroup setting with your two/three-year-old child! Registration forms and information can be found on the school website (www.strobertschool.com) under the Admissions tab. The class begins September 11th.

This is a reminder to those of you who chose payment plan #1 or #2 that your payment was due July 1st. All tuition matters can be checked at the Parish Office (659-2501).

St. Robert School DROP-OFF / PICK-UP PROCEDURS: Kdg-8th Grade (Preschool — Please refer to page 3)

For liability reasons, no child may be dropped off before 7:15 a.m. Please note that we will continue to use last years arrival/drop-off procedures to eliminate safety concerns with children walking across the drop-off line of vehicles. SCHOOL BEGINS AT 7:45

A.M. (Students who arrive at 7:45 a.m. or later are considered late.)

ARRIVAL (Bus Riders) 

Bus Riders exit buses and proceed through the North Entrance doors (Henry St.) and proceed directly to their classrooms.



No other students are allowed to enter via the Henry St. doors prior to 7:45 a.m.

ARRIVAL (Car Rider Drop-Offs) - As a reminder, NO DROP-OFFS ON HENRY ST. This is a BUS ZONE. 

Car riders will be dropped off three cars at a time—at the SOUTH ENTRANCE.



We ask that car riders proceed SOUTH (only) on McKinley Rd and enter the EAST PARKING LOT. Car riders will then follow the flow of traffic (arrows on pavement) heading WEST towards the SOUTH SCHOOL ENTRANCE.

Children will need to exit the vehicle on the RIGHT HAND SIDE (see map

provided on page 6). 

Adults and School Safety Patrol Officers will be present at the SOUTH SCHOOL ENTRANCE to help children safely proceed into the building.



Please be PATIENT at all times! Students exit on the right hand side. Wait to drop children off at the yellow pylons. Take your turn and stay in line.

ARRIVAL (Parkers / Walk-Ins) 

Parkers (Walk-Ins) must use the SOUTH CHURCH PARKING LOT. Car riders are not allowed to park on Henry St. or enter via the Henry St. entrance.



We ask that Parkers (Walk-Ins) proceed SOUTH on Cherry St. and enter the LOWER SOUTH CHURCH PARKING LOT. Please park facing SOUTH and then proceed into the SOUTH SCHOOL ENTRANCE.



CHILDREN WILL BE ALLOWED TO PROCEED UP THE STAIRS AND TO THEIR CLASSROOMS BEGINNING AT 7:30 A.M.

LATE ARRIVALS - Students arriving at 7:45 a.m. or later are considered LATE. 

The stairway door will be locked at 7:45 a.m.



Late students (7:45 a.m. and later) and their parents must enter via the Henry St. entrance.



ALL LATE STUDENTS MUST BE SIGNED IN BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN, so they can receive a pass to admit them to class.

DISMISSAL SCHOOL DISMISSES AT 2:31

P.M.



Bus riders will be dismissed with a 2:31 p.m. bell.



Teachers will walk car riders and walkers to the south exit for dismissal. Parents picking students up are to park in the LOWER CHURCH PARKING LOT (SOUTH LOT) facing NORTH.



NO parking in the UPPER LOT. Please wait for school staff to direct the flow of traffic.

Extended School Program (ESP)

Band

The ESP continues to accept St. Robert students ages four and older. The program will open at 2:30 p.m. and will remain open until 6:00 p.m. You can find more information and registration paperwork on the school website (www.strobertschool.com) in the Quick Link box under Forms.

Advanced band and beginning band students need to have their instruments in school by Tuesday, September 5th. Mrs. Rose will give further details the first week of school. Any band student who needs an instrument (5th—8th grade) should see Mrs. Rose on the first day of school.

Library Help Needed The SRS library is looking for additional volunteers. This is a fun way to spend a few hours a week while earning PIP credits. Please contact our librarian, Wendy Krupp, at [email protected], if you have questions or are interested in volunteering.
