SCHOOL & COMMUNITY

Busan International Foreign School, founded in 1983, offers a university preparatory curriculum for mainly expatriate and some national students. English is the language of instruction for all students Preschool through Grade 12. High school students at BIFS participate in the MYP curriculum in Grades 9-10 and may pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in Grades 11-12. All graduates of BIFS earn a high school diploma which is equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma. ACCREDITATION AND ASSOCIATIONS

BIFS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). In addition, it is authorized to offer the programs of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and is recognized as a College Board testing center for the SAT. BIFS is associated with additional organizations listed below.

SCHOOL CALENDAR

This is the first year BIFS will use the trimester system. First Trimester: August 11th - October 21st Second Trimester: October 24th - January 20th Third Trimester: January 23rd - April 24th There are approximately 36 weeks (180 days) in the school year.

GRADING SYSTEM

Grades reported on the BIFS transcript are based on the IB 1-7 grading scale. Starting in the 2016-2017 school year, BIFS will no longer report GPA. A “BIFS Course” is equivalent to a US university preparatory course. BIFS does not provide individual class rankings. Outstanding 7 Below Average 3 Excellent 6 Poor 2 Good 5 No Credit 1 Average 4

Please Note: The class of 2017 participated in the IGCSE in grades 9 and 10. They are the last class from BIFS that will have participated in the IGCSE.

CREDITS & GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 25 credits is required to receive a BIFS High School Diploma. A student receives one credit for the successful completion of a one-year course. Minimum high school graduation requirements include: English 4 World Languages 2 Mathematics 3 P.E./Health 2 Science 3 Fine Arts 2 Indiv. & Soc. 3 Electives 5-7
