I have a student here in Computer Science, Mr. Santosh Kumar. This guy is actually from Bihar, Begu arai Dist., Khamar Village. His father passed away when he was a small child and he was being looked after by his elder brother. The family depended on Agriculture on a small land of about half an acre. The elder brother was very little educated, married and had small kids. Some time in December, 2008/ January, 2009, this brother was detected to be suffering from some kind of Bone Marrow Deficiency (Aplastic Anaemia). The treatment attempted proved futile and he passed away some time in March, 2009. For over a month, Mr. Santosh Kumar missed classes in order to attend to his elder brother's treatment. His classmates, being aware of his poor financial status, collected a sum of about Rs.70,000/- (from their pocket money) and gave to him for support. I came to know about this Mr. Santosh Kumar and his problems only in April, 2009 after he returned to the campus here. His financial status is very grim at the moment. Some of the alumnus have kind-heartedly donated the part of his fees. But he still has to pay his hostel expenses, and has to meet his needs of food, etc. I am partly supporting him. He is also doing some part-time errands like giving tuition, etc. to maintain his basic needs. Sir, please do not mistake this email for asking any financial support from you. I am only seeking your advice and guidance as to how this Mr. Santosh Kumar can be helped. I am approaching you for this because you have lot of experience of travelling in many parts of the world. Somehow, I have a feeling that you can guide me more effectively on this cause. Could you please give me suggestions on how and where we can approach to obtain some financial help to Mr. Santosh Kumar. He has already taken a bank loan towards some of his educational expenses. And as his family's economic conditions are bad, he can not expect more assistance from the banks (as it appears). Sir, I look forward to your kind response. I have updated the online sheet with your donation of 7500/-. Uday Ji, I would leave individual to decide what works better for them. As I said earlier the important thing is that we have to help this guy. Money will ultimately reach in Santosh's hand. In my personal opinion let Santosh concentrate on his studies and we take care of his financial needs. Somehow i feel it would be little awkward for Santosh to receive money in his account in random order and more so on random dates. Also, Santosh already have his bank account, as I have mentioned above. I am sure all of us have online banking facility. One can add Santosh's bank account as payee and transfer the money directly. Else, send money to one account (which we will finalize soon) and send money on fixed date every month. Thus we will send money to Santosh on fixed date.
