Marvelous Musicians Welcome lcome in the Festive Season

Our two choirs have been busy with Christmas engagements during the run up to the festive season. In addition to performing beautifully at the Christmas Bazaar and Tree Lighting Ceremony, our super songsters have also been sharing their lovely singing at two special events. Last week our Lower School Choir took part in their now regular appointment to sing at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at The Regent Hotel. In front of crowds and cameras our youngest choir were wonderful and were justly rewarded with a visit from Santa.

by Mr Peter Sloan

Today it was the turn of our Upper School Choir who turned in a perfect performance at the European Chamber of Commerce Christmas Lunch. The Choir was ably accompanied by our fantastic Jazz Band. I must also mention our awesome orchestra who gave a marvellous performance at the Christmas Bazaar. Thank you to all our young musicians, to parents for your support and to all our staff who help behind the scenes. I must give a special thank you to our two outstanding music teachers, Ms. Kao and Ms. Lin and to our Jazz Band conductor, Mr Chong Mr. Stapleton.

We were delighted to welcome carol singers from BSHS to our school library on Thursday. Children from several BPS classes were serenaded with a range of carols from Key Stage 3 students who are taking Spanish as one of their courses. It was great to welcome back former BPS students and they, and their singing, were fantástico.

TES Chinese Panda Club & Pinling Elementary School Beetle Club Chinese Panda Club: Children in the Chinese Panda Club do a variety of activities related to Chinese language and culture, including learning Chinese characters, idioms, calligraphy, history, food and nature around us. During this term, the children were very lucky to get "beetle "beetl babies" from the Beetle Study Club of Pinglin Elementary School at New Taipei City, which is surrounded by beautiful natural environment and tea farms. The beetle babies were found on their campus, and passed to our students for them to learn to take caree of the beetle babies. When our children got the beetle babies for the first time, some of them loved the insects at the first sight, and some were screaming at them. After several weeks, the beetle babies grew w well and have become much bigger under the children’s care. Children brought ought the beetle babies home and to the Panda Club for discussion, and many of them have become confident taking care of the beetle babies.

by Ms Julia Kao

On November 23, the children of the Pinglin Beetle Study Club were cordially invited to join our Panda Club at TES. All the children brought their own beetle babies to discuss with each other. The children introduced themselves to each other, and were divided into groups for our children to show and guide them around the campus. Most of the t children were impressed with our library and the classrooms. Mr. Sloan and Mr. Duncan Millward, our Head and Deputy Head, also joined us to welcome our guests and interacted with the children. Their teacher, Mr. Huang Hungchi, also shared with our child children the knowledge about beetles. Mr. Millward showed some girls who did not dare to touch the beetle babies how to put them on the hands and interacted with them. At the end of the day, the girl who always screamed when she saw a beetle baby asked to take a giant beetle baby home to take care of it. Another girl also learned to touch and put the beetle babies on her hand as if it is something very “usual”. All the children had a great time interacting with each other and learned about the beetle knowledge with ith the support from the Heads, Deputy Head, and teachers and parents of both schools.
