CTE Review Meeting/Conference Call December 18, 2015 3:00PM ATTENDEES Terry Bouck, T.J. Eyer, Lynn Green, Renee Harris, Brenda Koch, Scott Anderson, Kathy Olson, Patricia Hubbard, Daniela Walsh MINUTES The meeting was called to review preparations for the CTE On-site Review. The District would like to have the process complete sometime by the end of March-April. Mr. Bouck expressed that he would like to schedule a visit to Clark County, NV for administrators, educators & community members. Materials, Data and Information will need to be gathered prior to on-site review. Survey of CTE program staff (including homeschools) – Self Assessment Tool Focus of Review: Secondary CTE 7-12 grade – Career Center & 3 Comprehensive High Schools, 4 Middle Schools. Career Guidance, Facility Planning, Structure The district expressed the need for developing pathways at the Middle School level which align through 9th grade to the High School programs. The “Career Center” is dated in the public’s mind, there is a great need to change perceptions. Connections to 2 year colleges, certificate programs, internships/apprenticeships, local 4 year college (MSUB) and school to work programs. The local healthcare industry has upcoming needs (in the next 4 years). The district suggested doing a SWOT-type analysis (Internal: Strengths & Weaknesses / External: Opportunities & Threats). Give students the opportunity to be competitive on a state and national scale. The two greatest needs identified: Vertical alignment from 7th-12th grade and making connections. Team Membership: Mr. Bouck mentioned that there is support in the community from Big Sky Economic Development as well as the Billings Chamber of Commerce. The onsite visit will last 3 days (interviews with targeted staff, review statistics and survey data, put together recommendations) Lynn will then complete the final report. Mr. Bouck suggested the following individuals as potential team members: Steve Arveschoug, Big Sky Economic Development; Alex Tyson, Billings Chamber; Amy Williams, Dual Credit; A representative from Clark County Schools; a CTE Administrator from another MT school district. Next Steps: The onsite visit was scheduled for March 9-11 (Wed-Fri) Lynn Green will fly in on the evening of March 8th. The final report should be complete in early April. Once the team is assembled, TJ Eyer will set up weekly conference calls to work on the predatory data and surveys. The District will assign a point person(s) to collect data and schedule interviews for the visit. Lynn Green will serve as the Lead Facilitator for the team, and also prepare the final report. TJ Eyer & Renee Harris will assist Lynn in setting up team meetings & putting together a list of CTE teachers in the High school, Middle school and home school programs. The BPS Tech department will administer the Self-Assessment Tool electronically before March, so data can be gathered and reviewed by the team prior to the onsite visit. This group will touch base after the holiday break to finalize the team.
