CHALLENGE 1: The Everglades Flow Infographic YOUR CHALLENGE: Stretching from central Florida to the southern tip of the state, the Everglades is a complex ecosystem dependent upon the flow of fresh water and nutrients. Like the rest of Earth, the Everglades’ survival relies on recycling finite resources. Create an infographic about the importance of either nutrient cycling or fresh water flow in the Everglades using both written descriptions and illustrations. Include at least one plant and one animal native to the Everglades and explain how your chosen process affects them. Science Fair suggested category: (6. Earth & Environmental Sciences)

CHALLENGE 2: Traveling Plants Design YOUR CHALLENGE: Throughout history, plants have moved with people as cultures traveled to new locations. Many of the plants currently in South Florida were brought by newly arrived cultures from abroad. Which plants would you choose to bring on a voyage to a distant new settlement? Create a composition of one food, one medicinal and one aesthetically appealing plant and write a paragraph explaining your choices. Science Fair suggested category: (13. Plant Sciences)

CHALLENGE 4: Green Cuisine: The Flavor of Space Travel YOUR CHALLENGE: When traveling in space, astronauts feel like they have a cold because microgravity makes sinus fluids rise in their heads. Adding fresh herbs and spices to meals can provide a boost of flavor to overcome the sensory deficit caused by congestion, and gives a nutritional boost to their restricted diet. Create a dish (entrée, appetizer, main dish, dessert, etc.) fit for an astronaut using fresh herbs and spices to add extra flavor and vitamins to your dish. Research the origins of your chosen herbs and spices, how they are grown and prepared, and what part of the plants are most commonly used. Identify the nutritional value of the entire dish, and share your creation during the Green Cuisine Event. Science Fair suggested category: (3. Biomedical & Health Sciences, 6.
