About The Program The Counseling Department at Sashabaw Middle School is devoted to providing a comprehensive program designed to cultivate thinkers, learners, and positive contributors to a global society. In addition to serving the immediate needs of our school community, we strive to implement a developmental program that supports student achievement in the academic, career, and personal/ social domains.
School counselors provide services to students, parents, school staff and the community in the following areas:
The focus of the Counseling Department at Sashabaw Middle School is to provide students and their families with comforting support and assistance in the development of their academic, career and personal/ social skills.
Responsive services: Responsive services are activities designed to meet students?immediate needs and concerns. Responsive services may include counseling in individual or small-group settings or crisis response.
The school counseling program mission aligns with the mission of Clarkston Community Schools. It is our purpose that over a lifetime, students will "Learn here. Grow here. ThriveEverywhere."
Direct Student Services Direct services are in-person interactions between school counselors and students and include the following: Individual student planning: School counselors coordinate ongoing systemic activities designed to assist students in establishing personal goals and developing future plans.
Indirect Student Services Indirect services are provided on behalf of students as a result of the school counselors?interactions with others including referrals for additional assistance, consultation and collaboration with parents, teachers, other educators and community organizations.

A counselor helps students when they have questions about their schedule. A counselor helps students to work out problems with school, friends, and with personal matters. A counselor helps students acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective learning A counselor helps to develop a students understanding between personal qualities, education, training, and the world of work.
How Does A Student See A Counselor? Students can see the counselor
in any of
the following ways: - Self-referral - Request of the counselor - Parent referral - Administrative referral - Teacher/ staff referral For parents: Parents are free to call the Counseling Office at any time for a meeting if you have academic, social, or personal concerns about your child.
