Fellow DeKalb High School Athletes and Parents, As the Barb Boosters chair for the proposed construction of an addition to the current concession stand near the football, soccer, softball and baseball fields, I am writing to elicit your support. The new high school was built mainly for day games and intermittent Regional and Sectional meets for outside sports. With the success of our sports programs in recent years, we have already outgrown our current concession area (the trailer) and we are looking to expand the permanent structure. The trailer has served its purpose and is currently in need of more repair than we would like to spend year to year. Windows in the trailer need replacing. The door has been pried open, resulting in a loss of supplies. As needed, supplies are hauled up stairs to an area too small to hold enough to get us through one game, resulting in time and energy wasted hauling instead of selling. Parents with disabilities cannot support their child’s team by working as they can’t access the trailer. Small children have problems purchasing concessions because they cannot reach the windows due to their height. The brick building currently holds a concession stand about 10 by 10’ with a 3 basin sink and a pop cooler. The proposed addition would bring the concession area to 30-20’ in size, compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and accessible to all outside sports. Currently only track, football and soccer are able to use it because of the fenced area. The addition will be to the left side of the brick building. With windows on both sides of the fence, tennis, softball and baseball will also have access to concessions, not allowed currently. Serving areas are ADA compliant for patrons as well as workers. Supplies will be moved in by flatbed; no manual labor required. Storage areas will be large enough to hold supplies for multiple events, decreasing the number of shopping trips. We hope to start construction next year and be ready for fall sports in 2017. It is our intent to sell pavers to the community and alumni to fund the project. What a great way to commemorate/ honor your favorite sportsman and/or musician past or present! Your generous donation would be greatly appreciated. Our goal is $200,000. The Barb Boosters have submitted their 501c3 forms making this donation a taxable write off. If a paver is not your preference, a cash donation would be greatly appreciated.
