A Litany for a Day of Hope September 18, 2016
Leader: Lord, look with compassion on all those who, because of addictions, have lost their health and have broken relationships. In your unfailing mercy, strengthen them in the work of recovery, restore their well-being, and reknit their ties to loved ones. Leader: For those bound by the chains of substance abuse, that we may encourage and assist them in their struggle, we pray... People: Lord hear our prayer. Leader: That those caught in addiction may trust in the mercy of God through whom all things are possible, we pray... People: Lord hear our prayer. Leader: That those in recovery be restored to the freedom of God’s children, we pray... People: Lord hear our prayer. Leader: For the family and friends of the addicted, that they show their love in faith and patience, we pray... People: Lord hear our prayer. Leader: For those who care for the afflicted, grant patient understanding and a love that perseveres, we pray... People: Lord hear our prayer Leader: For our children and young people who are not using harmful substances, that they may stay strong. May God grant them the ability to remain free from addiction, make good decisions, and guide them to a healthy substance free future, we pray... People: Lord hear our prayer Leader: For legislators, that they enact laws effectively enabling the restoration of our suffering sisters and brothers to society, we pray... People: Lord hear our prayer Leader: For the Church, that it accompanies and enheartens those tempted to despair, we pray... People: Lord hear our prayer. Leader: God of mercy, we bless you in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who ministered to all who came to him. Give your strength to those who suffer from addiction. Restore the families torn by the pain of substance abuse. Enfold all your children in your love and restore them to freedom through your grace. We ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
