40 Day Adventure—Part 5 October 26/27, 2013 Isaiah 6:1-9 FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE Prayer—Seek His will. Priority—Put God first in every decision. Purpose—Seize opportunities God brings our way. 1) 6:1 Judah had lost its sovereign, but God was still on His throne and in perfect control of everything. 2) 6:1 Isaiah saw the pre-incarnate Christ, who is the LORD! 3) 6:2 Seraphim literally means “burning ones.” • Two wings cover the face—They dare not look directly at God’s glory. • Two wings cover the feet—They are acknowledging their utter unworthiness to stand in God’s presence. • Two wings to fly—They render service to the One on the throne. 4) 6:3 The seraphim are perfect, unfallen, spotless creations of God. Yet, they are utterly conscious of being nothing in the presence of an awesome God. 5) 6:3 The antiphon thunders out the nature, name and power of God in its first line; and in its second line the scope and character of His dominion. The whole earth, not merely Israel, was made by Him and for this purpose—to show His glory. 6) 6:3 Holiness is the inner distinctiveness revealed in all of God’s activity, and His glory is the outward manifestation of His majesty. 7) 6:5 If the lips are unclean, so is the heart. 8) 6:5 Isaiah openly recognized that the consequences of his sinfulness would be his destruction.

9) 6:5 The first step before any true confession of sin is having an understanding of the holiness of the Almighty God. 10)6:6 The hot coal taken from the altar represents God’s purifying work…repentance is painful. 11)6:7 The removal of guilt indicates that the punishment for sin will not be held to Isaiah’s account. The guilt can no longer keep Isaiah from God’s presence. 12)6:6-7 The burning coal illustrations the following: • How anyone can identify sin (clear perspective on the holiness of God). • How everyone should respond when sin is recognized (admit it). • How God deals with confessed sin (He instantly removes it). 13)6:8 The question “Who will go?” does not mean God does not know or that He hoped someone would respond. He asked the question to give Isaiah the opportunity. 14)6:8 Isaiah responded instantly and without reserve.
