Hebrews—Part 5

February 15/16, 2014 Jesus is better! Hebrews 2:10-18

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) 2:10 The work of the cross was totally consistent with who God is. It was entirely fitting for Him to do what He did.

GREEK WORDS Prepō (prep'-o)—[primary verb]; to tower up (be conspicuous) Archēgos (ar-khay-gos')—a chief leader :- author (ity), captain, prince, pioneer Koinōnia—to have fellowship - partnership Metechō (met-ekh'-o)—taking hold of something that is not naturally your own

2) 2:10 Holiness, by its very nature, abhors sin. If sin is not punished through a penalty, truth itself would fail; as a result God would be falsified. 3) 2:11 In our thoughts, in our actions, and in our words we are far from holy. But in Jesus, we are perfectly holy! 4) 2:11 The practical reality of our lives in Christ includes sin; but the positional reality of our new natures is holiness. 5) 2:14 Jesus willingly embraced that which did not naturally belong to Him. 6) 2:14 Satan’s power had to be broken in order for us to be brought to God. Satan’s supreme weapon against man is death. 7) 2:15 Death holds no fear for followers of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:55). 8) 2:17 Jesus wanted to feel everything we feel so that He could be understanding. He came not only to save us, but also to identify with us.

9) 2:18 He is the God we can go to not only for salvation but also for sympathy.
