Romans—Part 37

June 24/25, 2017 Romans 6:18-22

FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE 1) 6:18 We have been freed from every aspect of sin:  Free from the condemnation power of sin eternally  Free from the enslaving power of sin while on earth 2) 6:18 Freedom in Jesus is so liberating that even your physical and emotional circumstances do not matter in view of the greater liberation. 3) “Happy are they who, knowing that grace, can live in the world without being of it, who by following Jesus Christ, are so assured of their heavenly citizenship that they are truly free to live their lives in this world.” ~Martin Luther 4) 6:18 God did not save us only to watch us wander the back alleys of a moral vacuum, all the while claiming “grace.” Those who are free in Jesus have become slaves of righteousness. 5) 6:19 Weakness of the flesh is associated with lack of spiritual discernment. 6) 6:19 Be as passionate in your walk with God as you were passionate in your bondage to sin. Do I chase after God as hard as I previously chased after____________?

7) 6:19 Although the inner person of a believer has been transformed into the likeness of Christ, the outer person, represented by the flesh, is still subject to the defilement of sin. 8) 6:19 A life of righteousness leads to further righteousness. 9) 6:19 Refusing sin is only half the issue. We are also to do the opposite and offer ourselves as instruments of righteousness. Do the actions of my life reflect the reality of my commitment to God?

10) 6:20 The good works we did before salvation were not subject to the dominion of righteousness. 11) 6:20 Righteousness can make no demands on an unsaved person because they possess no ability to meet its requirements. 12) 6:21 To be without shame is a mark of a sin-dominated life. When we come to Jesus, we see sin for the evil it is. 13) 6:22 Eternal life is the inevitable culmination at the end of a of sanctified life. 6:19
