His Nature, My Need—Part 2 January 12/13, 2013 Ephesians 1:7-11 FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE We matter to God: • Chosen in Him 1:4 …He chose us in Him… • Redeemed in Him 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood… • Sealed in Him 1:13 …you were sealed in Him… • Inheritance in Him 1:11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance… 1:7 Christ’s own death, by the shedding of His blood, was the substitute for our death. 1:7 Because we continue to sin, we need the continued forgiveness of cleansing; we do not need the continued forgiveness of redemption. 1:7 God’s grace, like all His attributes, is boundless. 1:8 God’s forgiveness is infinite, and He lavishes it without measure upon those who trust in His Son. 1:9 God not only forgives us—takes away the sin that corrupts us—but also gives us the capacity to understand Him. 1:10 God redeems us in order that He might gather everything to Himself. 1:10 History belongs to its Creator, not to the forces of Satan. God will see it through to the fulfillment of His own ultimate purpose. 1:10 The purpose of God in the history of mankind is to bring glory to Himself by bringing all of creation under the headship (the authority and rule) of Christ.
