This FREE webinar will introduce the new online Emergency Preparedness 101 course offered through The Center for Preparedness Education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in collaboration with CHA. The Emergency Preparedness 101 course was developed for health and medical emergency managers and includes practical information, hands-on applications, and resources for both experienced emergency preparedness coordinators as well as those new to the role. Previously offered by The Center for Preparedness Education as a joint endeavor between the Creighton School of Medicine and the University of Nebraska Medical Center as a live course, course designer Michele Kassmeier, Program Coordinator and Communications Specialist at The Center for Preparedness Education, will demonstrate the course in its new online format.

The Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) enables hospitals to better organize resources, staff, and facilities in order to remain operational during an emergency, and promote the restoration of day-to-day operations. This FREE webinar, presented by HSS Director, Tracy Buchman, will demonstrate the benefits of using HICS within a healthcare organization as well as highlight the specific components and goals of the 2014 HICS revisions. For more than 17 years, Tracy Buchman has served as the Safety Director at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, holds a doctorate in health administration, and has held several consultant & advisory positions with the Department of Homeland Security, Centers for Disease Control, and the National Hospital Incident Command System. As part of a Department of Homeland Security grant, through the American College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Buchman applies her expertise as a national level emergency preparedness site reviewer, has co-authored a hospital evacuation course for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and is a contributing author in the Oxford American Handbook of Disaster Medicine. Currently, Dr. Buchman is an instructor for the Hospital Emergency Response Training for the Mass Casualty Incidents (HERT) course and is a member of the Healthcare Leader (HCL) curriculum design team.
