Farewell from the Pastor Thank you all for the numerous heartfelt expressions of affection, appreciation, and best wishes that I have received in the last few weeks. They have been truly encouraging to me in this difficult time of transition. I’d like to share with you a few recent moments that have stuck in my mind as emblematic. The first came when I was distributing Communion this past week. As I would provide each person with the Blessed Sacrament, I could recall all the important moments that I shared with so many individuals and families. What a privilege it is to have been so connected to you all as a Pastor, a friend, and as a parish. Thank you. The second came from a young person when I asked during the children’s homily: “Why do you think I have to move?” His answer was, “So that you can teach about Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Mass to others now that you have done it here.” Well, that’s not how I first thought about it, but I do now! The final thought comes from the spirit of friendship that we all shared at the farewell dinner last week (and will be shared at the cookout, too). As a parish evening of celebration, conversation, and farewell, somehow it helped to add a positive angle to the changes to come. Eight years in a parish as a first time Pastor with lots of changes made a deep impression on me formatively as a priest and, more importantly, personally within my relationships with you. I can only say that I am deeply grateful to the Lord for allowing me to come here and live this phase of my life. This is a time of great transition on many levels for me, for many of you, and for St. Athanasius Parish as a whole. The Lord knows His plan even when we do not, and He will show the way forward regardless of the challenges that pop up to obscure it. Let us all move forward (even collaboratively) confident in that plan while at the same time renewing our dedication to live it. May God bless you.

FAMILY MASSES : For the Summer months we will not host Family Masses . See you in the Fall !
9:30am
RESTAURANT NIGHTS: Teens who received the sacrament of Confirmation this spring have the opportunity to eat at a local restaurant for FREE courtesy of St. Athanasius! This is simply a chance for friends to spend time together and support each other. Groups will be between four and eight teens and the restaurant nights will be on: Thursday, 6/28 at 630pm Wednesday, 7/18 at 7pm Wednesday, 8/22 at 630pm Please contact Brad at least one week before the date if you and a couple friends would like to RSVP for a dinner. Then we will decide on a restaurant.
YOUR GENEROSITY STRENGTHENS OUR PARISH AND FOR THAT WE THANK YOU ! Kevin & Debra Frazier your generous donation is greatly appreciated
From our Youth Minister: Brad Agostinelli SEEKING LECTORS FOR MASS ! Are you a teen who has received the sacrament of Confirmation? We would love to train you to serve as a lector for Mass at St. Athanasius! The role of lectors is to proclaim one or all of the Bible readings during Mass, which helps us to better worship God, learn His role in our lives, and prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. If you have received Confirmation, you are eligible to serve our parish community in this way. We are hoping to train at least two or three teens by the end of the summer to start serving during Mass in the fall. Please contact or speak with Brad if you have any interest or questions about becoming a lector or teaching Rel Ed !
Please pray for Molly and I as we prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage! We’ll be married at St. Patrick’s in Watertown at 1:30pm on Saturday, 7/7. Thank you for the support!

St. Agnes/St. Athanasius Collaborative News St. Agnes Parish and our collaborative partner, St. Athanasius, will begin as a collaborative in June of 2019. The Collaborative is part of the Archdiocese Pastoral Plan, “Disciples in Mission”. Learn more at the website: https://disciplesinmission.com Q. In brief, what is Disciples in Mission? R. Parish-based evangelization works, and we can train for it, but we need strong parishes in order to do so. Disciples in Mission calls every parish of the Archdiocese of Boston to become a strong, stable, intentional, and effective center of the New Evangelization. Disciples in Mission is not a plan to close parishes, because we believe that parishes are going to grow, not shrink, and we are going to need all of the space that we have. In order better to focus our resources on evangelization, Disciples in Mission organizes the 286 parishes of the Archdiocese of Boston into approximately 160 Collaboratives.
June 24 ~ Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist From his birth, John the Baptist was “a light to the nations” and one who grew strong in God’s spirit. While John knew he was not the messiah, he also knew that his role was to prepare people’s hearts for the coming of Christ. In what ways are you, like John the Baptist, “a light for the nations” leading others to Christ? Who are the people in your life that need to be pointed toward Christ? 5
